Now, if only Allen Patrick could be sure coaches will be calling his number.

Around the time Oklahoma's senior tailback suffered an ankle sprain earlier this month, he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated. The magazine highlighted running backs in its annual preseason college football issue, and deservingly, Patrick was one of the stars chosen for the regional covers.

He joined some stout company: Arkansas' Darren McFadden, West Virginia's Steve Slaton, Michigan's Mike Hart and a triune of Southern Cal backs.

Thing is, Patrick has some stout competition from his own teammates.

DeMarco Murray is a star in the making. Chris Brown is more than capable. Same goes for Mossis Madu.

Patrick is No. 1 on the depth chart, but his ankle is still ailing. That means he might not play Saturday against North Texas.
