Our challenge: Easing poverty a second century goal
B EING dismissive of new figures on Oklahoma 's poverty rate is an inappropriate response. But so is the belief that more government spending is the sole answer or that middle-class tax cuts threaten to impoverish more Oklahomans.
A spokesman for Gov. Brad Henry nailed it when he said new poverty figures represent a "complex, long-term challenge that doesn't lend itself to overnight, quick fix solutions.”
