Harry Mitchell was there, lodged in the thick of a dispute between city and ball club no different than the one between Seattle and the NBA 's SuperSonics.
As Mayor of Tempe, Ariz. . from 1978-94, Mitchell, now a congressmen representing Arizona 's 5th Congressional district, was a pioneer in luring the NFL's St. Louis Cardinals to Arizona in 1988.
