MIAMI, OK — The Fourth of July flood that damaged much of Miami has been recorded in a 68-page, all-color book of photos.

More Info

Floods' toll
Two months after 15 feet of floodwaters deluged hundreds of homes and businesses, residents are moving back and businesses are reopening.

More than 550 structures were damaged by flooding in July in Miami and rural Ottawa County. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has placed about 55 mobile homes in the area.

The book is the brainchild of Gary Crow, a freelance photographer. All proceeds will go to the Ottawa County United Way, in particular to the many organizations that have helped flood victims. Crow is a former United Way board president and current member.

The title of the book, "29.25,” reflects the level of the Neosho River when it crested, Crow said.

Crow said he decided to do the book because the flood was so historic and so many people were asking for photos.

"I thought it would make a little money for the United Way,” Crow said.

The first printing is expected to earn $20,000 for the agency, he said.

The book features photographs depicting Ottawa County residents preparing for the flood, evacuations and roofs barely visible above 15-feet of floodwater.

Crow's flood photos have appeared in newspapers across the state. He is a frequent contributor to The Oklahoman.

Where to get the book
•Chapters Book Store, Osborn Drug Store and the Miami Chamber of Commerce. Cost is $10. 5,000 books were printed.
