Still in the Box
Even though coach Bob Stoops said linebacker Austin Box would be one of three freshmen to play this season, Box has yet to step on the field, suggesting he will redshirt this year.

"I wasn't completely sold,” defensive coordinator Brent Venables said. "He could play, but we're in a situation health-wise we don't have to do that.

"In the end, I think he gets more value picking up that year down the road.”

•Reed on the bench: Junior linebacker Mike Reed was one of OU's top recruits coming into this season. But so far, he hasn't fulfilled those lofty expectations.

Reed hasn't worked his way into the linebacker rotation and didn't play against Miami.

"You have to earn your way on the field,” Venables said. "And (Reed is) not doing enough things right to warrant the playing time.”

Halzle on fire: Sam Bradford may be garnering attention nationally for leading the country in quarterback efficiency at 237.73. But Bradford doesn't even lead the Sooners in that category.

It's backup Joey Halzle, who has completed 5 of 6 passes for 100 yards and one touchdown in mop-up duty for a quarterback efficiency of 278.3.

Halzle, however, doesn't qualify in the national ranking because he hasn't attempted enough passes.

Hometown Hero: OU Heisman Trophy winner Jason White, in conjunction with ESPN Gear, will make an appearance as part of the Hometown Heroes tour that is promoting the launch of ESPN College GameDay apparel.

White will appear Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the JC Penney inside Sooner Mall at 3501 W Main St. in Norman.

Question: I know Cox cable is showing Utah State in the Oklahoma area as a pay per view. Does anyone know what channel Direct TV is going to offer the pay per view telecast of the game for national satellite customers? Thanks
