Lights come on for Iglesias

After two fairly good seasons, Oklahoma junior receiver Juaquin Iglesias is on pace for a great one.

Iglesias has proven to be the perfect complement opposite OU's big-play receiver, Malcolm Kelly. While Kelly leads the team with seven TD receptions, Iglesias has the team lead in catches (19) and yards (302) through three games. Last year, Iglesias had 41 catches for 514 yards.

"The way I'm playing now, it's like night and day,” said Iglesias, comparing this season to his previous two. "I'm getting more comfortable and learning how to play the game instead of worrying about what to do.”

Lofton reaching lofty levels: Junior linebacker Curtis Lofton has already put some space between himself and his teammates on the Sooners' tackle chart. Lofton has 28 stops in three games, while fellow linebacker Ryan Reynolds is second with 18 tackles.

Asked how Lofton's play compares to some of the top linebackers to play at OU in recent years, head coach Bob Stoops says Lofton stacks up well.

"He's playing as well as anyone we've had,” he said. "Really, Ryan is, too.”

No day off: Because of this week's game being on a Friday night, the Sooners were back on the practice field Sunday night, typically a day off for the players.

Saturday's blowout win helped players forget the lack of a day off, too.

"If it had been a normal game, if I would have played a full game, it might have been different,” Kelly said. "I pretty much forgot about it once (Stoops) blew that whistle.”
