Mike Gundy held his weekly press conference on Monday and addressed a number of issues, including his Saturday tirade against Oklahoman columnist Jenni Carlson.
Gundy spoke about Saturday's game against Texas Tech for the first 10 minutes before being asked about the postgame. On Saturday Gundy did not address any aspect of his team's 49-45 win over the Red Raiders, choosing instead to rail against Jenni Carlson's column about backup quarterback Bobby Reid.
When asked about the outburst, which has gained significant national attention, Gundy said he didn't regret the outburst and said he is surprised by how much attention it has drawn.
"I just was shooting from the hip,” Gundy said. "I probably should have had a better prepared speech — my English would have been better. The only thing I said is that I should have written it out because there's other things I wanted to say and didn't get out. Because I forgot.”
When asked what other things he wanted to say, Gundy said it wasn't "worth talking about.”
"It just happened,” Gundy said. "Because of my feelings for the team and the players and I felt like it wasn't the right thing and so I was the guy that had to say something about it. I certainly didn't do it to receive recognition and I certainly don't want to take away from this upcoming game like it unfortunately took away from the last game for the team.”
On Saturday night Gundy said three-fourths of the story was inaccurate. Carlson asked Gundy during the press conference what was incorrect in the story and Gundy responded "I don't have to.”
She then told him she can't report errors to the paper unless she knows what they are.
"I don't have to,” Gundy said again. "I'd rather just let it go.”
