OSU's Brandon Pettigrew pulled in a career-high seven catches against Georgia in the season opener, and has four in the past three games. By NATE BILLINGS, THE OKLAHOMANPettigrew's touchdown gave the Cowboys a 49-45 lead Saturday against Texas Tech with 1:37 left, a lead preserved by the defense. "It was a huge play and a huge win,” said offensive coordinator Larry Fedora. "I've been saying since preseason he was a guy a lot of people overlook, that he's pretty special. He's huge to us in this offense.” Pettigrew's highlight-reel catch showcased all of his skills, which is why some NFL scouts have speculated the Tyler, Texas, product might turn pro a year early. "To start with, it was a great catch that he had to reach for,” said quarterback Zac Robinson. "He had to stretch out and use all of that 6 (foot) 6.” Pettigrew then slipped a tackle, sidestepped another defender, stiff-armed a third tackler and rambled down the sideline for a score. "After he used a little shake (move), I was like, ‘OK, here we go,' ” Robinson said. "I really hadn't seen that (move) before. Tommy Devereaux did a good job blocking. Then he rumbled downfield, stiff-armed a guy and then the big leap... "Big trees fall hard.” Robinson was referring to Pettigrew's dive into the end zone. "That was my Superman (move),” Pettigrew said, smiling. Does he plan to do it again? "No. It hurt.” Pettigrew wanted to make sure a Texas Tech defender racing from the other side of the field wouldn't cut him off. "I was just trying to make it,” Pettigrew said. "I was that close. I had to make up for last year's OU game, falling down at the 1.” It was actually the 2-yard line. But it proved to be a pivotal play. Pettigrew rambled downfield, carrying OU defenders. After he was stopped just short of the end zone, the Sooners halted OSU's momentum with four stops a goal-line stand. This time, Pettigrew found the end zone to help the Cowboys, 2-2, record a much needed win after a disappointing loss at Troy. Orange-clad fans went crazy.
