BOULDER, Colo. — Oklahoma lost.

But the season is not.

Colorado rallied from a 14-point, fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the No. 3-ranked Sooners 27-24 on a last-second field goal Saturday at Folsom Field, effectively ending OU's chances of playing for a national title.

But OU can still beat Texas.

OU can still win the Big 12 championship.

OU can still play in a BCS game.

"This isn't the first time we've been in this situation. You can find out a lot about a guy how he reacts in these adverse situations,” said defensive coordinator Brent Venables. "You can sit here and mope about it, or you can suck it up and find out what went wrong. That's it.”

For OU, a lot went wrong in the second half.

Leading 24-7, the Sooners self-destructed with several key penalties and three costly turnovers, two leading to Colorado touchdowns.

OU's defense, which didn't get a breather in the second half, couldn't get off the field by stopping the run.

And the offense didn't help either, either turning it over or punting on three-and-outs.

The Sooners had just 19 offensive snaps in the second half compared with Colorado's 46, wearing out OU's defense late. Said coach Bob Stoops: "We talked about some things we didn't do very well today, and what we need to get done for next week so that we can have a chance for the rest of the year.”

OU will have more than a chance, because at the moment the once mighty Big 12 South looks dreadful, culminating Saturday with seventh-ranked Texas being blown out at home 41-21 by Kansas State.

But the next two weeks are crucial.

If the Sooners can handle the reeling Longhorns, then hold off undefeated Missouri in Norman, they should be in control of the league.

OU has rebounded before. After losses to Oregon and Texas last year, the Sooners recovered to win the Big 12 and appear in the Fiesta Bowl. The same can happen this season.

But first, OU must rekindle its identity of controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides, shutting down the run and tossing the ball deep to Kelly.

"The Big 12 South, we can still come out and win that,” Bradford said. "If we want to achieve the goals we set at the beginning of the season, we have to come out and play hard and play to the best of our ability ever week.”

The Big 12 Championship is in San Antonio, so no home field advantage for Colorado next time. Colorado played a great game and Oklahoma was flat. Folsom Field is a tough place to play, but give credit to the Buffs for playing well in all aspects of the game, and it still took a fG with no time left to win. OU fans forget about Colorado, let's get ready for Texas!!!

Hey Dick from Mesa becareful what you wish for. I would hate to embarrass you twice in the same season. The Buffs dominated the play against the Sooners... is that all the offense you can muster? 220 yards? Bleak! And who said anything about the Rockies? Furthermore its doubtful you could rup the nuts off anything but a lame cat!

There were holding calls the refs didn't call until late in the 4th qtr. That was also a catch by Igleses. But dog gonnit, you cannot have turnovers. If OU has no turnovers, OU wins the game

As I recall half the top ten lost as well and the other half will lose by mid NOV, as I see it we lost early and can play and will play our way back into the MNC!

Hey "Colorado,Boulder", are you kidding me? Are you really that excited about beating OU when your team has 2-2 record and a 2-10 record last year? Is this the team you want to be proud of, one that doesn't beat OU much and got stomped in the Big 12 championship game several years ago 42 -3. I would be embarrased to be this excited w/ a 2-2 record. And as for how many Super Bowls Oklahoma has, what does that have to do w/ college football. You do realize don't you that the Pro teams are comprised of players from all over, including OKLAHOMA, you dumb@ss.

Kind of funny how you couldnt find any Buffs coverage in your local papers the week leading up to the game. Now that you pulled off the "miracle", you seek out our paper to post your opinions. Pretty funny really! With any luck, we will see you in the Big 12 Championship. We just took you too lightly because of your track record. Colorado made the plays and Oklahoma didnt in the end. CU's offense played well, it helped that they called the same play over and over. "Hand the ball to the fasted guy while the rest of the team holds every defender in the area." The replay officials boned us again as well. To play at OU, you have to beat the opponent and the refs everygame. We did not to that Sat. I have been saying for 2 years that Smith should NOT be returning punts.

How many national championships does CU have? And who has the winningest college football program since WWII, and the most 10+ win seasons in the history of college football?
7 National Championships, 40 Conference Championships
24 Bowl Championships, 4 Heisman Trophy Winners,
142 All Americans, 327 NFL Draft picks, 47 game winning streak. That's right, OKLAHOMA!!! BOOMER SOONER!!!! Shut up, get off our newspaper board.

You can't tell me there is not a coaching problem at OU. Colorado has recievers open all day, we barely can get one open. Our defensive backfield wasn't close to a reciever all day long, Colorado had two guys on most of our recievers all day, and I mean close to our recievers. No time out to ice the kicker!!!! You got to be kidding me.
No quick hitches to our wide recievers just to change things up!!
Sorry boys, I said it last year after the Boise game and after this years Tulsa game, we can't play pass defense worth a rip, and our offense has no imagination or adaptability. If we face any more teams with a pass offense this year, and a little imagination, it's not going to be just a one loss year.

I agree that winning ten games a year is something to be proud of, but that's where OU is going to stay at with this staff. I read the article that said Kevin Wilson likes to mix up his players to throw the other team off, how about mixing up the plays to throw the other team off!!!!! If it ain't working do something else!!!!!
OU is a very frustrating team to watch. Lot's of talent but to many player and coaching breakdowns.

Come on everyone, don't jump ship. We weren't ready to play yesterday, and we let the game go. I disagree with the article saying that the national title hopes are gone - if yesterday didn't prove that anything can happen! If we can win out (which I believe we can, yesterday was a fluke), LSU and Florida have to play next week, USC has to play Cal and Oregon - we still have a shot at New Orleans. Don't criticize Stoops, he's an amazing coach and we couldn't do any better. Boomer Sooner baby! I STILL BELIEVE!!

No Robbin, it came down to being out played and too many turnovers and mistakes. Anybody who seen half of the top ten teams lose realized that competition is tough and EVERYBODY has their off days - besides a 3 point loss is not exactly a rout, especially when OU gave Colorado all the help it could. Kudo's to Colorado for a hard fought victory and a thank you for proving if you dont play your best - you will lose.

It gets down to this. Did Oklahoma get $3.4 million worth of coaching on Saturday? First, congratulations to Colorado on a great win that was very deserved. That said. the Sooners' preparation, play-calling and execution were all atrocious. It starts and ends with Stoops. Was it $3.4 million worth? You decide, and then determine whether OU needs a change.

Hey Sooner fans. Good game yesterday by both teams. To those saying that the Sooners handed the game to the Buffs through turn-overs, don't forget that in the first half the Buffs gave you two short fields (11 & 19 yds) for easy touch-downs. The Buffs just played without those mistakes in the second half and took advantage of them the same as the Sooners did in the first. Turn-overs are part of the game and happened on both sides. Good luck in the rest of the season and please Hook-those-Horns! Go Buffs!

When you are up 24-7 in the second half, MIDWAY through the third quarter and lose....that's coaching ala John Blake. When you get manhandled and beat like a lil' redheaded stepchild...ala USC in 2004 that is superior talent. Ask any coach, hell ask the Jackass in Norman who refuses to fire Kevin Wilson, just like he refused to fire Chucky (how's that working out in SD, Chuck?), what 24-7 to 27-24 means (it's the coaching stupid. OU will never win another National Championship until Kevin Wilson is fired and they hire someone FROM OUTSIDE the program. You know someone with new ideas on how to play football, not call vanilla ass plays to keep from losing a game...PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, Joe step in before it's to late.....FIRE KEVIN WILSON, FIRE KEVIN WILSON, FIRE KEVIN WILSON. Cuz we all know that ole' lose to someone we are not supposed to BOOB won't do it(OSU 2001, 2002, Texas Tech 2004, Oregon 2006, K-State 2003, LSU 2003, Nebraska 2001, Boise fricking State 2006).

And they are too arrogant to realize there weaknesses. This season is DONE. Again Stoops loses to weaker teams with less talent. Yea, no need to jump ship after 1 dissapointing loss...I actually figured next year would be OU's big year considering the QB ,any QB, would have a year's experience under their belt...maybe games like the Colorado game will get the players and coaches to buckle down and know they can't rely soley on beating teams with athleticism alone...otoh, this unpredictability is precisely why I love college football as opposed to the finely tuned, game-of-inches parity of the pros....

Calling for Bob Stoops to be fired is ridiculous. CU was fired up for homecoming, their D played great, their offense took advantage of blown coverages and the OU D was gassed from being on the field so long in the 2nd half. Mental and physical breakdowns happen due to fatigue, which is why Reggie fumbled that punt. It's one of the things that happens in sports, sometimes you lose. I know we haven't had that much losing (heck- Dan Hawkins lost in one season, 10 games last year, which is half the losses that Stoops has had in his entire career), so the team will regroup and get ready for next week's game with Tex-ass. Fans that are negative and are calling for coaches to be fired after one loss---- one loss, are just fair weather fans, not true OU fans at all. If you're so disappointed with OU then become a OSU fan, or better yet, a Notre Dame fan. Now there's a team whose fans have a right to expect the coaches head. OU will win out, and hopefully with a little help, get a chance at the National Championship. That's pretty slim, but it has happened before and hey, Colorado beat Oklahoma, so anythings possible. BOOMER SOONER!!! GO OU!!!
