Wide receiver Kelly upbeat after loss
Without being specific, Malcolm Kelly said Monday that OU coaches were working to get Kelly more involved in the offense when defenses run cover 2 — a coverage designed to defend an opponent's top receiver.

"We got a good scheme now,” said Kelly, who didn't have a pass thrown his way in Saturday's 27-24 loss to Colorado. "We'll be able to counter that.”

Kelly said he was frustrated by not being a bigger part of the offense but appeared upbeat after practice.

"If I sit around and worry about that, I'm not getting better, getting ready for Texas,” Kelly said. "That's all behind me now.”

Three's no charm: With Saturday's setback, Texas dropped its third straight Big 12 Conference matchup.

The Longhorns closed the 2006 regular season with losses to Kansas State and Texas A&M. Saturday's game against the Wildcats was this season's league opener.

With OU up next, is there a feeling of desperation around the Longhorns?

"I wouldn't say desperate at all,” said linebacker Scott Derry. "I think we have a new hunger rising in our stomach. I think we just want it even more than we have before, for that fact right there.

"I wouldn't call it desperation, just hungry and wanting to get this feeling out of our stomach.”

That hurts: Texas quarterback Colt McCoy's health was naturally a hot topic Monday, after he suffered symptoms of a mild concussion in Saturday's 41-21 loss to Kansas State.
