What's it like to be a QB at Texas?

With his backpack on and his cap pulled low, Colt McCoy looks like any other Texas student.

He's not just any other student, of course.

No Longhorn quarterback is.

"They're held to much higher scrutiny than a lot of the other players in the country,” Texas coach Mack Brown said. "At the same time, they're treated as royalty sometimes when they win games.”

Classmates will ask for autographs, and students will whisper and stare.

"I think he's really handled that well,” receiver Nate Jones said. "I think he really enjoys it.”

Jones has minority leadership class with McCoy every Tuesday and Thursday morning, so he's seen first-hand how going to class can sometimes be more like a pep rally for McCoy.

"He tries to stay focused,” Jones said. "If the teacher asks him a question, he tries to answer it.”

Offensive lineman Tony Hills has seen the same in the government class he takes alongside McCoy.

"That quarterback position is probably one of the most scrutinized positions here,” Hills said. "That's a credit to Colt and his upbringing with how he's able to handle that thing.”

He knows, after all, how crazy it can be. A few years back, he and then-quarterback Vince Young were chased across campus by two students wanting autographs.

"Man,” Hills said, looking at Young, "anybody that ran that far is worth a couple signatures.”

Nothing like a human interest story.

I sure do miss the days when you could get some insight into OU and it's upcoming opponents from the Oklahoman. Today I have learned that some reporter I have never heard of got sick at last years OU Texas game and that the UT quarterback is popular around campus
