Frederick Douglass McMullen left home at daybreak Saturday to go fishing, but when he didn't return that night, his relatives called emergency officials, then drove to Canton Lake, where they thought he was fishing, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

After searching the area, McMullen's stepson found McMullen's truck and trailer at the west boat ramp at Sooner Lake, nine miles southeast of Red Rock, in Noble County.

Fishermen found McMullen's body at the shoreline about a quarter-mile north of the boat ramp before OHP officials arrived at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the base of the front pedestal seat in McMullen's boat gave way and he fell overboard and apparently drowned.

He was wearing a life vest.
