Freezing temperatures were recorded overnight and early today in western and northwestern Oklahoma as a strong, upper-level storm system held its grip on the state.

The system is expected to move slowly eastward and away from the state today.

Temperatures dropped to or below the freezing mark north to south along the western edge of Oklahoma, the National Weather Service said.

Mesonet or weather reporting sites recorded several locations close to the freezing mark, but actual readings of 32 degrees or lower were reported in places such as Gage, Camargo, Freedom, Erick and Camargo.

Cities and towns in approximately the western two-thirds of the state recorded lows in the 30s overnight.

There also were wind chills of around 30 degrees throughout that area.

The weather service said most of the state should see temperatures warm into the 60s and 70s today.

There is a chance of lingering showers in eastern Oklahoma, particularly the southeast.

Warmer and drier conditions, combined with brisk northwesterly winds, will create slightly elevated wildfire concerns this afternoon over western Oklahoma.

Wednesday's weather should be similar to today, but scattered showers will be possible Thursday and Friday, forecasters said.

The most likely area for rain is the central and southeast.
