The brand launches Thursday at Balliet's, one of only a few stores the company welcomed to the family this year.

Sisley is sold in more than 80 countries, but selective distribution helps drive the company's success. Not every brand needs to be in every store.

Long before the rest of the beauty industry became interested in essential oils and plants, Hubert D'Orano understood the skin care benefits that the plant kingdom could provide.

Sisley laboratories specialize in phytocosmetology, a process based on the use of natural plant extracts in beauty products. Choosing the best plants is paramount; less desirable plants produces less-than-desirable results. It may take several years to study the plant dosages, develop the formula and effectiveness before a product is ready for the store shelves.

Sisley offers products for the face and body, from cleansing and hydration to sun protection and age defense, as well as botanical makeup with skin care benefits.

Star products include Ecological Compound, the brand's flagship product launched in 1980; Facial Sun Cream with Botanical Extracts; and Hydra-Flash for Face.

The Ecological Compound costs $120 to $210, depending on the size.

Fall's hit list
Women's Wear Daily, a trade paper for the fashion industry, recently checked in with retailers across the country about their best-selling contemporary items so far.
