To find out whether someone with a criminal background has been granted a waiver to work or live at your child's day care, go to www.newsok.com/news/dhswaivers.

The site contains detailed information about waivers granted between Jan. 1, 2006, and July 19, 2007, that can be searched by city. Information about the crimes, workers' explanations for the crimes, reference letters and reasons the individuals believe they should be permitted to be around day care children are available.

When day cares are granted waivers, operators are required to post their notification letters at their facilities.

Information about waivers granted outside the time period covered by NewsOK.com is available by sending an open records request to the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. A copy of a sample open records request form is available at the above Web site.
