WOODWARD — His mother has been tried and convicted of his death, but for Woodward County Sheriff Les Morton and his department, the case of a little boy missing for more than five years is still open.

A Woods County judge ordered Katherine Rutan, also known as Katherine Pollard, to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole after a jury convicted her of first-degree murder in the presumed death of Logan Tucker.

Logan disappeared in July 2002 and hasn't been seen since.

"Logan Tucker's death is not complete. There is no closure on the Logan Tucker case just because Rutan was convicted and sent to jail,” Morton said.

Not giving up
The investigation "will go on until the day he is found.”

Morton and his deputies continue to follow leads or tips they receive about the possible whereabouts of the child, who was 6 years old when he last was seen.

Morton said he recently searched the Cedardale area by plane and car after "we found a map in her (Rutan's) cell that had the Cedardale area circled.”

Investigators aren't sure why the area was circled or even if it was Rutan who circled it, but Morton said the map was still a lead he thought his office should follow up on.

Mother in custody
Rutan recently was transferred from the Woodward County jail to the Lexington Correctional Center, where she is awaiting another transfer to a higher security facility, officials said.
