19,500 federal inmates may be freed

Attempting to address sentence disparity in the federal criminal court system, the U.S. Sentencing Commission has shortened its recommendations for crack cocaine offenses.

In January, the commission will vote on whether the change should be retroactive, which could lead to the early release of an estimated 19,500 federal inmates across the nation — including about 70 in the Western District of Oklahoma .
