Ginther, who had thrown for 2,650 yards and 28 touchdowns entering the championship game, recently signed to play baseball at Oklahoma State.

•Playing in their own back yard: The regular season meeting between the two is known as the "Backyard Bowl.”

Friday's game was nearly moved out of Jenks' and Union's back yards due to planned construction at Chapman Stadium.

But University of Tulsa officials asked the contractor overseeing the construction to push the project back a week to accommodate the game.

The game was likely headed to Norman's Owen Field if Chapman Stadium wasn't available.

•Former Trojans take in title: David Tovar already has a 2007 championship.

Friday, Tovar watched his former team win one of their own.

Tovar, who played at Jenks as a sophomore, was a senior defensive end on Fayetteville (Ark.) High's Class 7A state title team.

"It was definitely different going over there and playing,” Tovar said. "It wasn't anything like this as far as the atmosphere or anything.”

Nebraska linebacker Phillip Dillard was also in attendance.
