OU and OSU have had hot and cold histories in the Valley of the Sun. The top 10 sporting events involving the Sooners or Cowboys in Greater Phoenix:

•10. (tie) 1993 OSU football: Cowboys play tough at Sun Devil Stadium but lose 12-10 to Arizona State.

•10. (tie) 1993-94 OSU basketball: One of Eddie Sutton's most talented teams — Big Country and Randy Rutherford as juniors, Brooks Thompson as a senior — lost 97-84 to Arizona's dynamic backcourt duo of Khalid Reeves and Damon Stoudamire.

•9. 1988 NCAA baseball: OU lost two straight in an NCAA regional, 10-1 to Pepperdine and 13-6 to host Arizona State.

•8. 1994-95 OSU basketball: Sutton's Final Four team lost 72-69 at Arizona State in December.

•7. 1990 OSU baseball: Cowboys beat Arizona State twice in the NCAA regional at Tempe to advance to the Final Four.

•6. 1976 Fiesta Bowl: OU routed Wyoming 41-7 on Christmas Day, but Cowboy coach Fred Akers got even, going 5-4-1 against the Sooners the next 10 years as the coach at Texas.

•5. 1974 Fiesta Bowl: In OSU's first bowl in 16 years, the Cowboys beat Brigham Young 16-6, knocking star quarterback Gary Sheide out of the game in the first quarter.

•4. 1983 Fiesta Bowl: Marcus Dupree ran wild, then ran out of gas, and Arizona State beat OU 32-21.

•3. 1992 NCAA Tournament: Fourth-seeded OU lost 87-83 to Southwestern Louisiana in the first round of the West Regional.

•2. 1984 OSU football: Cowboys open the Pat Jones era with a stunning 45-3 rout of the 12th-ranked Sun Devils.

•1. 2007 Fiesta Bowl: Boise State stuns OU 43-42 in overtime with a finish for the ages.
