NORMANCoach Bob Stoops said Friday morning that suspended sophomore defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger is likely to remain with the team.

"I expect him back,” Stoops said. "We'll see what else we can do with him. I'm sure they'll be some other disciplinary action.”

Granger did not play in the Fiesta Bowl after being arrested last Saturday night, accused of shoplifting.

According to police, Granger attempted to steal a jacket from a Burlington Coat Factory inside Arizona Mills Mall.

Granger was bailed out of jail Saturday night and sent home on Sunday.

Granger (6-foot-2, 307 pounds) was a second-team All-Big 12 selection this season after collecting 35 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and a team-best eight quarterback hurries.

I agree that a mistake deserves a second chance. Shoplifting is an intentional act. I vote to send Granger down the road kicking horse piles. A loyal sooner fan.

Of course, Granger should stay on the team. That a team member bonded him out of jail indicates that he is not a pariah in the eyes of his teammates. Questions remain regarding why he was by himself in a store. A bigger question for me is why no one at Football U knew that Lendy Holmes was in trouble academically (grades or progressing toward graduation). A wide-eyed, loyal Sooner!

Hmmm...Dusty Dvoracek anyone? Yes, he's an idiot for stealing but he will be punished and he's embarrassed that he let his teammates down. That's a huge punishment in itself...put him on probation, and if he messes up again then send him down the road

I live in Texas, if we kicked everyone off of the UT team that ran afoul of the law--UT could'nt field a team.

Yes, Granger should be given a 2nd chance. What is the penalty for shoplifting? We always want to be careful not to give athletes/celebs a free pass. But, at the same time, tis is a relatively monir offense. Most likely a fine, probation and maybe community service - this goes for anyone!!! Kick him off the team? If every college kid that made a mistake (shoplifting, speeding, jaywalking) was kicked out of college and lost their scholarship the world would be a sad place..... There needs to be consequences and a lesson learned (maybe he willgrow up a bit), but dismissal?

i'm glad things have come to the point where on the day before your bowl game you decide to steal a jacket after receiving a gift bag with all kinds of expensive freebies it's called a mistake. that's not a mistake, that's who you are. and they aren't kids. if so, we're fighting a war in iraq with kids. kids will also help in deciding the outcome of the next presidential electition. they're kids because that's how they're treated now. never expected to grow up until the "mistakes" they make cause real damage. he'll learn a lot from this one. he'll learn he's priviledged just like the rest of the thugs bob recruits. i love trying to pick up the gang signs after touchdowns and qb sacks. that's real fun.

I think you people are crazy. Every one on here must be perfect and have perfect kids/wish I did. Bandwagon fans are just that, Stoops is one of the best in the nation and I want him here. He will figure it out. These are the same coaches that put together the game plan that kicked Missouri's ass a month ago, they do not play the plays, gotta blame the players. Stoops and his coaches will figure out what is wrong and they will correct it. Our young men are not thugs. Neither are they losers. Just the ones typing that crap on her fit that bill. I was at the Fiesta Bowl and yes it was ugly and not much fun, but I think it can and will get fixed very quickly. Boomer Sooner!

I think the guy deserves a second chance with a probationary status that would permanently kick him off the team if one other thing happens the rest of his career. He completely embarrassed himself and the university with what he did but I think he should have a chance to redeem himself.

I really enjoy sitting here in a double wide trailer that’s leaning from my 300 pound wife while she smokes a cigarette and watches me write hate letters about the OU football program. Gotta go now. Shamu wants me to make another Walmart run. Glad I’m not a loser like all those Sooner fans.

Dusty Davorchick (sp?) nearly beat a close friend to death, more than once. Turned his life around.
Who says Granger cant. All of you "perfect" parents/people out there who have never made a bad decision are better than I am. I made a bunch of them, and thankfully I had people who cared enough to give me more than one chance. Stoops will make this young man pay, so will his teamates.
steve, heavener - Jan 5, 2008 at 12:20 pm
Stoops will make him earn his way back onto the team. This guy will be in the NFL he will work hard to get trust of the coaches and players again.

JIM SAYS "Wow - Is there no tolerenace anywhere left for kids that make a mistake?"

Wake up Jim, that's why the world is in the shape that it is right now. --Poor kids, no dumb parents that should not have kids because they don't have any values. "Here is to all you folks that don't teach values, morals and spank your children when they need it". -

Looks like the OSU fans don't have anything to do but read up on OU!!

Granger? Who cares? Only morons! Go Sooners!
Desiderius, Tuttle - Jan 5, 2008 at 11:01 am
Wow - Is there no tolerenace anywhere left for kids that make a mistake? How many of us have made stupid mistakes and received a second chance and made good on it? Are we really ready to throw away a life after one transgression? Granted, if he is a discipline problem or if this behavior continues - get him gone, but I see nothgin wrong with giving him the opportunity to correct this and be a productive and contributing citizen (football? - does it matter?). Life chances are what should be important. These are 18-22 year olds playing a game - we should be proud of the effort and the success of the program over the last 60 YEARS!!!! How many other schools can say that. Miami of the Big 12, please. BOOMER SOONER

Bad call in my opinion. Yank his scholarship. If he truly wants to play, let him walk-on and earn his opportunity. If he decides it's not worth his time and effort, then thats OK too. Sam Houston State here he comes!!!
Kelly, Newalla - Jan 5, 2008 at 10:52 am
It doesn't matter if we miss a few starters because it would be hard for us to win with the offensive cordinator that we have. He doesn't use the tight ends which are the best in the nation like he should. He doesn't use Quentin Chaney who looked unstoppable. We need to go find a good offensive cordinator with all the playmakers that we have. That is the bottom line.
willard, Calera - Jan 5, 2008 at 10:45 am
It's time for the Sooners to fork over another salary increase for Stoops.
Danny, Vail - Jan 5, 2008 at 10:42 am
Eeryone deserves a second chance. Look at Eddie Sutton, he's on his third chance now.
Janet, Oklahoma City - Jan 5, 2008 at 9:59 am
Why should Granger apologize? He is learning well from the master, I applaud Coach Stoops for knowing how to play the game! Much like the CEO of any major corporation who fails to provide a return for his investors (fans), he is not fined, disciplined, or ridden on a rail out of town, instead he will get a fat $3M bonus just for blessing us with his presence for the 08 season. I recognize an excellent strategy. Give the lemmings a taste with a Championship, then they reward you with one of the fattest salaries in football. What motivation is there to win after that, in fact losing the big game comes with bigger rewards. "If we only had an indoor practice facility, maybe we coulda' won" So the lemmings build that eyesore mount Everest and give a fat bonus where it is due. "If only the stadium was larger with some private boxes for the fat donors we coulda' won" So the lemmings expand the Gaylord cathedral and give a fat bonus where it is due. you see where this is going...ad nauseum. At a salary already 86 times that of tenured professors, I think professor Stoops sure is schoolin' us dumb okies on how to make a buck and keepem coming! GO SOONER NATION!! Keep the green river flowing and we will always be a bridesmaid, never a bride.

Yes, the University of Miami has nothing on the University of Oklahoma when it comes to stockpiling thugs, thieves and ganstas.
Congratulations OU on taking the "Miami of the Big 12" moniker.
Danny, Vail - Jan 5, 2008 at 9:58 am
Wow! This is certainly NO SHOCKER.
Stoops and OU have once again demonstrated a lack of class when it comes to football. It's win at all costs.
Typical Sooner decision from a bunch of thieves and losers.
Without thieves, OU has proven it can't win.
Nice going, Stoops. You've sold your soul to the Devil.
So have you Sooner fans.

"Stoops says Granger will stay on team" -I'm sorry to hear that. A thief is a Thief, I have no use for them. Another Bad call Coach. -Stupid on this kids part, just stupid. Do you know how many coaches on OU's team that would have bought him a Coat. I bet WV's coaches would have too. Just a Thief. Instead of asking he did what many others in the penitentiary would have done, just take it. Trash. If you are reading this and you steal or have stolen, your trash.
These excuses some of these readers are coming up with is lame. Your parents, like many these days are lacking. Should be a law against having children. Should have to apply for a permit.
