OU coach Bob Stoops said last Friday that he is in no hurry to replace wide receivers coach Kevin Sumlin, who is leaving to become the new coach at Houston.

Stoops indicated that the wide receivers OU is recruiting aren't concerned about who the receivers coach will be.
"There is not real urgency,” Stoops said. "We have some ideas about some quality people I am considering. I think, more than anything, in speaking with all the wide receivers they are excited about how we play. They know we are not going to change that and they are comfortable with the rest of our staff and that whoever we hire is going to be similar to what we have been used to. I have not heard from any of them that is a concern.”
One possible candidate is UCLA offensive coordinator Jay Norvell, who was Stoops' wide receivers coach in 2002 for a month before taking a job with the Oakland Raiders.
•Sumlin hires Spavital: Sumlin is taking OU defensive graduate assistant Zac Spavital with him to coach the cornerbacks at Houston.
•No more OU staff changes: Stoops said that other than Sumlin and Spavital leaving for Houston, he expects there to be no other coaching changes.
"No, I don't believe there will be anymore,” Stoops said. "I believe they will be the only changes.”
•Mark Stoops to Miami?Arizona defensive coordinator Mark Stoops is considered a possible successor to take over as defensive coordinator for the Miami Hurricanes.
The Sporting News reported last Wednesday that Stoops, who was the defensive backs coach for the Hurricanes before joining Arizona after the 2003 season, is considered one of the top candidate to replace Tim Walton.
•OU sets TD record: In spite of the Fiesta Bowl loss, the Sooner offense set a school record for TDs in a season with 80. The previous record was 78 set by the 2003 Sooners.
•Bradford breaks two records: Predictably, QB Sam Bradford broke the school marks for completion percentage (69.5 percent) and passing efficiency (176.53).

Has anyone looked at the rankings today ? #10 along with Texas ............whoa what's up with that ? After the win over Texas and the win over Missouri when all was said and done and the other teams won their bowl games and Oklahoma lost they ended up in the same spot ......see life goes on for all of us LSU anyone heard of them ?
LSU is definetly the best team in the land. USC would not be able to pass on them, only GA and maybe WV would be able to hang with that outfit. Ohio St. vs. OU in the toliet bowl. One thing OSU did not give up like OU coaches did they kept trying. My Sooners F-upped again, gotta move on.
Did Stoops just say he isn't going to change up coach's? We might as well forget going to any BCS game next year!! Our same old defense is gonna eventually get exposed, like always, and lose the game.
AMEN to anything is better than Venebles. I've officiated high school and small college football for 23 years -- and have NEVER seen a more non-aggresive defensive coordinator than him! OU's defense took a "bend-don't-break" mentality when Mike Stoops left. OU can go 9-3, 10-2, etc for years with him there...because of superior talent. But we/they will never seriously compete for another Natl title until he's demoted or replaced. How many years in a row has OU given up 35+ points in a bowl game? Better ? -- how long will Bob Stoops let loyalty to a friend override the need for a change here. If he's having trouble finding a good def. coordinator, I'll fill in! I can do a better job...and that's a sad problem...
Forget about Jay Norvell if you are going to re-hire someone who left you before, look to ex-receiver coach and passing game coordinator Darrell Wyatt. But look like Larry Fedora beat us to him.
