According to police documents, Pettigrew was given the opportunity to leave a fight between "10 to 15 people” that was in progress Sunday at 1:20 a.m. in the 2300 block of North Dryden.
The police report states Pettigrew refused to leave the area and grew uncooperative. After being order to leave several times, Pettigrew allegedly cursed the officers and struck an officer in the chest.
Pettigrew, 22, was taken into custody and accused of assault and battery on a police officer and public intoxication. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Payne County District Court today at 1:30 p.m.
Coach Mike Gundy, on a recruiting trip, was unavailable for comment. OSU sports information director Kevin Klintworth said coach Gundy was aware of the situation and was gathering information.
Pettigrew, 22, was booked into Stillwater jail and later transferred to the Payne Country jail. He was released Sunday morning.
A junior, Pettigrew was contemplating applying for the NFL Draft but announced last week he will return for his senior season. He has 70 career receptions for 978 yards. Last season he hauled in 35 catches for 540 yards and four touchdowns.
