NORMANOklahoma defensive end John Williams will be applying for a medical redshirt to the NCAA with hopes of returning for a sixth season, according to the Oklahoma sports information department.

Williams suffered a torn Achilles tendon against Tulsa this past year, causing him to miss the entire season. The 6-foot-5, 256-pound Williams started alongside Auston English at defensive end for the first four games before the injury.

Williams’ career has been marred by injuries.

In 2005, he missed the entire year after suffering a torn ACL in the opener against TCU, allowing him to pick up his first medical redshirt.

Is this really news?

If He played for BYU he could go on a mission & still be junior.. If he breaks his leg again, he might be a 3 legged end .. table, not the stability you're really looking for. I bet he gets clearance from the NCAA, just so he can declare early! Maybe he wants to play here until he's 40.. So he can finally be a real man!

my end tables don't play football.

I hope he gets it. He was playing really well before the last injury.

Well, if he gets hurt next year he can get another medical redshirt and be a perpetual player into his 30's...LOL. HE sure seems to be injury-prone.

I thought we Sooner fans were smart and had some knowledge about football. I'm thinking the writer made an assumption that readers were knowledgeable about the game of football. So in a nutshell let me try to help you out with football 001.
There are 11 men that play defense. They each have positions with names such as end, safety, corner back, tackle and linebacker. Most of the time the Sooner's use four players that are the first line of defense they are called the defensive line. It consist of two tackles and two ends. Now picture in your home a sofa (your sofa is the tackle position) it takes up most of space in the middle, then you may have two end tables. They are on the end of the sofa (end tables are your defensive ends) John Williams played defensive end, the other defensive end was/is Auston English. So when the writer writes "Williams started alongside Auston English at defensive end" he is saying that both Williams and English are the defensive ends (or your end tables).
Then they have the three linebackers (back the defensive line). The linebacker position has three names 1. Middle aka Mike, 2. Strong side aka Sam and 3. Weak side aka Will or Willie their job is to ... You must have a premium account to access the rest of this article. If you are a premium member, you can log in here. I agree with Matt, This story is redundant. The last paragraph states the same info that is in the first four.

He tore his achilles tendon against Tulsa and he started alongside Auston English. Here is a tidbit you may not know: he had a medical redshirt last year for tearing his ACL against TCU. FYI
