Booze isn't a rite of passage, official says

Teenage drinking is a public health problem and not a harmless part of growing up, Rear Adm. Dr. Steven K. Galson , acting U.S. surgeon general, said Wednesday during a town hall meeting at the Oklahoma History Center .

"Drinking too much can affect the structure and function of the brain, particularly in young people,” he said.

Galson said teenage drinking touches everyone — children and adults alike.
