The former Oklahoma star won the award in fan voting on the NFL's Web site. Nearly 440,000 fans voted from Jan. 3-28, topping last year's record of 363,500 voters.

Peterson was one of five finalists for the award. The other finalists were wide receiver Dwayne Bowe of the Kansas City Chiefs; running back Marshawn Lynch of the Buffalo Bills; offensive tackle Joe Thomas of the Cleveland Browns and linebacker Patrick Willis of the San Francisco 49ers.

Peterson broke all Viking rookie rushing records and set an NFL record for rushing yards in a game with 296 against San Diego on Nov. 4. He finished second in the league in rushing with 1,341 yards.

And to think, some people said he was gonna be a bust in the NFL. If the Vikes can develop any sort of passing game, whether with their current QB or not, AD has the prospect for a Hall of Fame level career. If not, its gonna be Billy Sims at the Lions all over again.

The Vikes absolutely have to deal for a QB.He was so bad in that MNF game versus the Skins, it was painful.A.D. will run amuck with a passing threat in the backfield. They could do with a better coach and one that doesn't look like my junior high algebra teacher. The dude looks completely lost.

AD was a man among boys this year. If the Vikes had any type of QB play then Peterson may have ran for 2,000 yards.
