Welker, an Oklahoma native who played football at Heritage Hall High School and Texas Tech, is this year's Sports Headliner. He is a wide receiver for the New England Patriots. Welker set a franchise record in the 2007 regular season with 112 receptions, which also tied for the NFL lead.
Stoops is this year's Headliner Special. This year's OU team won the Big 12 championship and played in the Fiesta Bowl.
This year's Special Recognition Award goes to Oklahoma City University's (OCU) athletic department for their achievements in 2007. They finished 12th in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' (NAIA) Director's Cup standings. The department tied its record for most national championships in a year with four in 2006-2007, bringing the schools' national titles total to 32. OCU captured national titles in men's basketball, softball, and men and women's golf.

•Paul Smith, Tulsa football
•Allan Trimble, Jenks football
Bart Conner, three-time Olympian and gold medal winner, and his wife, Nadia Comaneci, five-time gold medal winner will host this year's Sports Headliner Banquet.
"Nadia and I are parents to a healthy beautiful boy, Dylan, who was born four weeks premature,” Conner said.
"Together, we are happy to support the March of Dimes carry out their mission of educating people and improving the health of babies by giving to an organization that changes lives each day.”
High School Scholar Athlete nominees will be announced later this month. The March 12 event at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City will begin with a special reception for sponsors at 6 p.m. followed by the awards dinner at 7 p.m.
