The Sooners signed three 4-star wideouts in Jameel Owens (Muskogee), Josh Jarboe (Ellenwood, Ga.) and Dejuan Miller (Metuchen, N.J.).
Entering Wednesday, no other school had commitments from more than two top-25 receivers.
Owens (6-foot-3, 210 pounds) and Jarboe (6-3, 195) along with Jones (6-4, 215) have enough size and speed to immediately compete for a starting job left vacant by Kelly when they arrive in Norman this summer.
"I feel like physically I can compete for that spot,” said Owens, a Parade All-American and the No. 1 overall player from the state of Oklahoma. "The coaches are not promising anything, but they've told me I'm physically ready. Even if I don't start, I'm going to work to get some playing time.”
If he fills out his lanky frame, Miller (6-6, 205) — who will be the tallest receiver in OU history — is also talented enough to push for playing time.
And not only that, OU already has shifty Ryan Broyles and speedy Tyler Stradford, redshirt freshmen who impressed the Sooner defense at times during practices last season. Redshirt freshman Corey Wilson, younger brother of former OU standout Travis Wilson, could also factor into the rotation.
"Everyone is fighting for a chance to play,” Owens said. "We all know that coming in. But having that many weapons will take the pressure off any one of us too.”
The onus will be on Sooner offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, new wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell and rising sophomore quarterback Sam Bradford to utilize all that talent and prevent that stockpile from becoming a logjam — a problem most schools would love to have.
"I think competing against each other will make us all better,” Owens said. "Since we have a new (position) coach, everyone is going to be equal. I think if I go down there and work hard, play with intensity, compete, be mentally strong, I'll have a big chance of playing.”

If Stoops didn't sign James Winchester out of Washington High School close to Norman he might have missed out on a in the hole. This kid has the size and numbers even though he is from a small school. He can catch the ball as good as anybody I have seen. Who knows he could be another Wes Welker in the making.
Colorado? The Holiday Bowl? Wow you do have something to brag about there. The only monkey you can talk about is the one you will be holding. You talk allot of crap about your team when the season hasn't begun. Remember, your in the same "peanut ass" Big 12 Conference your putting down. Too bag Colorado can't play outside their stadium or beat two of your own rivals in MIZZOU and Kansas. One word comes to mind...LUCK.
Gee Steve....let me guess you can't stand OU. I invite you to have a cup of "go root for the other team". Incidently, notice that OU is NUMBER 1 on Rivals listing of the best basketball/football programs since 1974. As for the OU recruits, they are good and will be good for many years. So turn on you ESPN/Fox and get ready for a healthy dose of Sooner Football.
Hopefully you can compete with teams like Boise and WVU. When will you ever win another bowl game....let's see 0-4 streak going right now. Guess these recruits don't watch TV anymore.
Actually, Your, Way and Zach, Perkins, you are both wrong. Chaney was listed at 6'6.5" coming out of high school (Booker T.) and is now listed at 6'4". (You can view this info. on Scout, not Rivals.)
We need to get the offence to start playing like they need to hang a half-a-hundred on our opponent and do it the first half. Then let the 3 and 4 units play.
Chaney wasn't even as tall as Kelly (6'4), he was never listed as 6'7...you're nuts. Even the rivals page didn't have him that high and I check it religiously.
That being said, can't wait til next year!! Hope Jones signs because I don't think, even with the recievers OU's getting, none of them have the ability that Kelly did, and Jones just might.
Chaney was listed at 6'7" by some when he signed. 6'6" when he got to Norman and was 6'5" last i saw. So who know how tall these guys really are?
