The Oklahoma State Department of Health is encouraging more businesses to support a woman's right to breast-feed at work.

The initiative announced Thursday seeks to recognize businesses that support a woman's right to breast-feed.

Oklahoma law currently allows mothers to express breast milk during unpaid breaks and meal times during the work day.

For worksites to be recognized, they must offer mothers flexible break times, a comfortable, private location for pumping, access to a nearby sink and a written policy supporting breast-feeding.

Businesses can earn a "gold-star" designation by offering such things as access to refrigerator to store milk and a hospital-grade breast pump available for employees to use.

Doctors recommend exclusive breast-feeding for the first six months after birth and continued breast-feeding for at least one year to achieve optimal health of a mother and her child.

As I remember, The Okla. State. Dept. Health never supported or encouraged their own employees to breastfeed during clinic hours.

It doesn't bother me and I'm glad to see area malls install special rooms. But I have a problem with mom's who breast feed into the kid's 3 third year. I don't have any firm research but I've seen anecdotally from my own untrained observations that these kids wind up with some rather peculiar fascinations with women's breasts. People tend to think the opposite but in kids I've seen who were breast fed into their 3rd birthday, these kids go bozonkers when they see a breast later in life. Its like they are thinking "payday" when the see a breast. Now you may say all boys are like this but I'm saying kids breast fed later into toddler years have an excessive conscious fascination with them because they have vivid memories of touching and feeling one whereas kids who stopped at 6 months have less conscious memories. I think the moms who do this have bought into the new age thinking. Its almost funny to see a 3 year old kid run up to mom at a mall and yank her shirt open and begin drinking like its a water fountain. I can only laugh.

How totally repulsive. If these women want to breast feed then let them stay home and do so. Just thinking about something of this nature makes me want to puke.
