A man accused of pimping a 16-year-old girl in a handful of states will remain in jail until his trial, a federal judge ruled Thursday.
Irish Levon Woods, 22, is facing two felony counts in federal court in Oklahoma City that could land him in prison for life.Advertisement
Convictions in other cases
Agent Mitchell Thompson said Woods' name first came up in connection to prostitution in October 2003, when he was only 18 years old.
Woods has been convicted of misdemeanor charges related to prostitution three times — once in Las Vegas and twice in Oklahoma City.
Thompson said Woods lured a Midwest City teenage runaway to Norfolk, Va., in November and put her to work as a prostitute.
"This is a better life for you,” he promised after her first day of trading sex for money at a Virginia hotel, according to court papers.
Woods put the girl to work as a prostitute in several states, including Oklahoma, Thompson wrote in an affidavit. She said Woods forced her in January to "walk the strip” on S Robinson in Oklahoma City.
The girl and another prostitute who worked for Woods solicited truckers at several Amarillo, Texas, truck stops last month before they were arrested, according to Thompson's court affidavit.
The girl, who won't turn 17 until June, was jailed until her mother came from Oklahoma to pick her up.
'Net-ting arrests
Thompson said Woods used Internet-based exchange site Craigslist to attract customers for the teen, whom he had met through a mutual friend in December 2006.
Oklahoma City vice officers have arrested more than 100 people over the past two years using ads posted on the site, Thompson's affidavit stated.
