A winter storm that passed through Oklahoma this weekend brought lots of rain but no snow.

Even in northern parts of the state, where meteorologists had predicted 3 to 5 inches of snow, there was no snow on the ground this morning, according to the National Weather Service. A few flakes may have fallen, but because temperatures hovered around freezing, there was no accumulation.

It was snowing in the Kansas City area today, and some areas had already received 2 to 3 inches.

The weather service issued a winter storm warning that will remain in effect through noon today for the northwestern third of Oklahoma. The warning includes an area northwest of a line from Ponca City to Perry to Okarche to Cordell to Beckham County, meteorologist Forrest Mitchell said.

Sunday's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with highs in the mid-40s. A warm-up is expected to begin Monday with highs in the 50s and 60s.

Rain causes problems

Hail an inch in diameter was reported Saturday in Jefferson, northwest of Stillwater, the weather service said.

The ice and rain caused problems in the metro overnight Friday and Saturday morning.

Firefighters helped a driver and two passengers off the roof of their car Saturday morning after the car stalled in waist-deep water near Walker Avenue and SW 24.

Rain water began seeping into the stalled car, so the three people inside decided to climb onto its roof, Oklahoma City Fire Maj. Les Norman said. They got cold and called 911 for help about 11:35 a.m.

Fire crews extended a ladder to the car so the people could get off the roof without wading through the water, he said.

He said debris from the December ice storm was clogging up a storm drain, causing high water on that street. Once the drain was cleared, the water receded.

A Midwest City police officer lost control of his cruiser about 2:40 a.m. Saturday and crashed.

Officer Kevin Kreider spotted a driver he thought was drunk and attempted to catch up to the vehicle, which was driving west in the 6000 block of NE 10, Police Chief Brandon Clabes said. Kreider hit a patch of ice, causing his cruiser to spin. It struck a curb, ran off the road and hit a light pole.

Kreider, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released for minor injuries, Clabes said. The cruiser was heavily damaged, making it Kreider's second wrecked cruiser in a month. A drunken driver crashed into Kreider's car on Jan. 29.

Old news. The weathermen overstated the weather forecast again. I wish I had a job where I could be as wrong as they are as often as they are and still get a paycheck.

So basically the weathermen should just say, "It may snow, it may not snow. We really don't know what will happen so just look out your window when you want to know what the weather will be."
