How Stoops' 2008 contract breaks down
•Base salary: $220,000

•Supplemental income: $1,975,000

•Speaking engagements: $580,000

•Guaranteed total: $2,775,000

Performance bonuses
•$60,000 for participating in the Big 12 championship game or $80,000 for winning the Big 12 championship

•$65,000 for participating in a non-BCS bowl game

•$100,000 for participating in a BCS bowl game or $150,000 for participating in the BCS national championship game

•$250,000 for winning the BCS national championship

•$75,000 for a Top-10 finish in the BCS rankings or $50,000 for a Top-20 BCS finish

•$30,000 for being named coach of the year by the Big 12 Conference

•$60,000 for being named national coach of the year by The Associated Press

Other bonuses
•$3,000,000 to be received on Dec. 31 as a 10-year anniversary staying benefit

Graduation rate bonuses
•Stoops would receive $40,000 for a graduation rate of 65 percent or better; $50,000 for 75 percent or better; $60,000 for 85 percent or better; $100,000 for 100 percent.

(Note: In ratings released last October, Oklahoma's football program had a "graduation success rate,” as calculated by the NCAA, of 44 percent)

In addition, Stoops is also provided with
•2 automobiles with insurance

•35 hours annually of private airplane use

•Membership and monthly dues at a Norman-area golf course

•20 football tickets

NORMAN — Bob Stoops is about to become a $6 million coach.

Stoops, 47, is scheduled to receive a one-time $3 million benefit on Dec. 31 this year for coaching at OU 10 seasons, according to his contract obtained by The Oklahoman through the Oklahoma Open Records Act.

That $3 million benefit, combined with more than $2.77 million he'll receive in guaranteed compensation, along with additional income he could gain from various performance bonuses, means that Stoops could earn more than $6 million in 2008.
