Oklahoma 197-pounder Joel Flaggert needed an injury timeout midway through his match with Clayton Foster. The No. 9-ranked Flaggert was favoring his left knee and was attended to by a trainer. He eventually finished, beating Foster, 9-6. OU lost its 174-pound starter, Jeff James, to a torn knee ligament last week against Cal Poly.
•Sweet relief:OU coach Jack Spates was easily the most thrilled person in McCasland Field House with the Sooners' win. He knows OSU's 19 dual win streak frustrated some fans, but none were more frustrated than he was. Spates said the win was so emotional his wife had tears in her eyes when she hugged him afterward.
"The biggest failure in my tenure here has been Bedlam,” Spates said, smiling. "It was nice to win one again.”
•McSpadden eyeing return: OSU 157-pounder Newly McSpadden (19-8) has missed recent duals with Oregon, Cal Davis, Cal Poly and Oklahoma with an undisclosed injury. Smith said he expects McSpadden back for the Big 12 Championships on March 8. Neil Erisman started in McSpadden's place on Thursday and lost to Chad Terry, 4-0.
•Where to begin:Spates didn't know that the dual would start at 184 pounds because he was introducing Oklahoma's seniors for their last home dual. Most duals start at 125 pounds, but starting out at 184 worked out just fine for OU.
