Tyler Lyons earned the first win of his OSU career, allowing just two runs on four hits in five innings. Sophomore Matt Willis pitched the final four innings and did not allow a run while striking out three to pick up the save — his first at OSU.
OSU went into the sixth with a 3-2 lead. Hague tripled of the top of the wall in left-center and the Cowboys took off from there. After Rebel Ridling and Luis Flores walked to load the bases, Neil Medchill drove in two on a double. Flores also scored on an error to make the lead 6-2.
After Medchill stole third and scored on a throwing error, Mercer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give OSU an 8-2 lead. Hague then doubled down the left-field line clearing the bases and making the score 11-2.
OSU's final run came when Michael Dabbs was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh.
OSU and Gonzaga will conclude their series with a doubleheader today beginning at 1 p.m.
UCLA's Gabe Cohen hit a two-run, walk-off home run to lead the top-ranked Bruins to a 7-5 win over Oklahoma.
The Sooners had staged a late-inning rally that tied the game at five in the top of the eighth behind a Mike Gosse two-run homer.
OU started eight newcomers including starting pitcher Jeremy Erben. Erben, a sophomore, got off to a rocky start. In his first inning of work, Ebren had a runner reach on an error, he walked two straight, gave up a sacrifice fly and hit another batter. Erben eventually settled down, striking out five in four innings.
OU and UCLA played again late Saturday.
