Askins casts rare vote in Senate
The state Senate on Monday called on the lieutenant governor to break a tie vote for the first time since 1959.
Lt. Gov. Jari Askins ' vote broke a 24-24 tie to pass a bill dealing with the employment security commission and child support enforcement.
The lieutenant governor is president of the Senate but can only vote if there is a tie, according to the Oklahoma Constitution.
