"The only thing we got done is we thought we needed to have a decent attempt at the offensive rebounds.”
The Cornhuskers certainly accomplished that, grabbing 12 offensive rebounds and scoring 17 second-chance points. Aleks Maric finished with five offensive rebounds as part of his 17-point, 12-rebound double-double.
The other three items that went unchecked were transition points (OSU had eight fast-break points), 3-point shooting (the Cowboys were 9-of-19 from 3) and free throws (OSU made 24 of 33 from the line).
•Sharp-shooting:OSU's leading scorers on Saturday, point guard Byron Eaton and forward Marcus Dove, combined to shoot 11-of-14 from the floor. Dove made 2 of 3 3-pointers and Eaton was 2-for-2 from long range. Obi Muonelo was also 2-of-3 from 3-point range.
Dove hit crucial 3-pointers at the end of the Kansas and Missouri games, and every time he attempted a 3 on Saturday Eaton would hold up three fingers and turn and run down the floor, as if assuming the shot was good as soon as it left Dove's hand.
The one spot on the floor where Eaton appeared mortal was on the free-throw line. The point guard's free-throw average was 83.4 percent going into Saturday, but he missed an uncharacteristic four free-throw attempts.
•.500 for sure : After starting the conference season 1-6 OSU is now 7-7 in Big 12 play. Saturday's win also guaranteed that the Cowboys will finish the season with an overall .500 record. Currently 16-12, OSU could lose out and still finish the year with an even record.
"It feels good to finally get back to .500,” Dove said. "It feels good to go on this streak. Hopefully we can keep it going. The season is far from over.”
•Hosting the North: With Saturday's win OSU has now defeated 25 of the last 30 Big 12 North teams it has played at home.
With wins over Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas the Cowboys have beaten all three Big 12 North teams they will host.
