Maria Cordero, OSU's other senior, broke out in tears during the pre-game ceremony and in the postgame locker room.
"It's a good feeling knowing that this program is doing so well, knowing that we made a difference,” Cordero said. "When we came here, we heard that we could make a difference and this program was going to start doing big things. To be a part of that is just awesome.”
•Milestone points: Sophomore point guard Andrea Riley scored a game-high 21 points to give her 1,017 for her career. Riley and Clinette Jordan are the only two OSU women's players to score 1,000 points by their sophomore season.
"I hope she scores 1,000 more, I know that,” OSU coach Kurt Budke said. "She's obviously a special player and she obviously has special teammates. There's not a lot of people who would allow a freshman to come in, or a sophomore like she is now, and take this many shots.”
•Orange jacket:Budke pulled out the famous orange jacket he wore the night the Cowgirls beat Oklahoma in front of a capacity crowd at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
"Maybe it will be my Bedlam and Senior Night jacket,” Budke said. "Some people want me to wear it every night.”
•Turnover troubles: The Cowgirls committed a season-high 21 turnovers with 16 coming in the first half.
"I think we were trying to force the ball into the seniors a little too much, I really do,” Budke said. "I'm not going to say I know that (for sure). But I saw some passes trying to be squeezed when we haven't done that lately.”
•Good signs: This season the Cowgirls are 18-1 when they score 70 or more points, 16-1 when they out rebound opponents, 16-1 when their opponent shoots less than 40 percent from the field and are 20-2 when they shoot more free throws.
•Clamp down:Texas Tech coach Kristy Curry criticized her three post players who were a combined 6 of 20 from the field with 14 turnovers, part of the reason the Red Raiders shot 29.5 percent from the field.
"That was the worst display of post play I have ever had in my career,” Curry said. "It is totally unacceptable. They couldn't even hit a free throw. That comes down to effort.”
