NORMAN — The Mike Reed era at Oklahoma has officially ended.

The OU sports information office confirmed Monday morning that Reed is no longer on the Sooner football team.

The junior-college middle linebacker came to Norman with much fanfare as the top prospect out of the 2007 recruiting class.

But Reed never made an impact on the field and was beaten out on the depth chart by Curtis Lofton, who would eventually be named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

Sooner coach Bob Stoops said earlier this month that Ryan Reynolds would be given a chance this spring to replace Lofton at middle linebacker.

OU also signed junior-college transfer Mike Balogun, who is expected to be on campus in the summer.

Hey James, why are you reading OU football articles? Is it envy or jealousy? doesn't matter, now get back to the OU dorms and clean those toilets you POS.

I'm sorry Tom from OKC I guess I should have known who the GREAT Mike Reed of OU was. Like you said I must have been catching up on my culture in the lifestyle section of the paper. Its nice not to have all my knowledge and happiness based on what 18-21 year old student athletes accomplish in football during college. Thanks for the confidence Booster!!

Harry- I certainly understand the banter...I'm not even going to try to be moderator here. Just thought I'd put my word in for Mike Reed, thinking of him as a person, and going beyond the field..We all are guilty at times about minimizing the real important things in life.

Philip--some good natured back and forth talk between OU and OSU fans is no problem in my book. In fact it can even be kind of fun. But, clowns like Nathan and Burt who try and turn Reed's real life problems into an excuse to bash a school (in this case OU) are way, way over the line. At least in my opinion they are.
harry, lake forest - Mar 4, 2008 at 2:47 pm
M, fair enough. I can understand why you responded the way you did.
Saxon, Oklahoma City - Mar 4, 2008 at 2:38 pm
OK; lots of back and forth between Sooner's Fans & Poke Fans. Not into being a referee here, just a comment re: Mike Reed. There are times that we all have to put things into prospective & know that there're many more important things in life than football (Did I say that? lol) I believe Mr. Reed has had to make some of those crucial decisions & I only wish him the very best with his family troubles. Putting this first makes him a winner in my book..

Saxon, my comment was not meant to be mean or cruel. Just a response to Nathan's comment that all OU fans are uneducated, trailer trash, wife beaters.

Nathan, Nathan, Nathan--I just read one of your posts....you say OU had 1 magical season in 2000 and has failed ever since? Even you can't be serious with comments like that. From 2001 thru 2007 OU wins 80% of the time, has 4 conference titles and has gone to 5 BCS bowls. If that is failing please, please, please enlighten me on the success enjoyed by OSU in that span.
harry, lake forest - Mar 4, 2008 at 11:46 am
Saxon, you're a reasonable guy; hope to see you on here again. Maybe some of your smarts will rub off on Burt and Nathan. But then again, they wouldn't know what to do with it.
harry, lake forest - Mar 4, 2008 at 11:09 am
Nathan--I posted it 3 times because repetition is the only way to get through to a dull skull like Burt. Mike Reed leaves the OU football team to take care of his sick wife and 2 kids and Burt thinks it's an open invitation to sling some mud? Brilliant thinking. Burt must be a gifted student.
harry, lake forest - Mar 4, 2008 at 10:55 am
As an OSU fan, I am going to say sorry for some ignorant Poke fans on here. Every school has players who do not develop (Bobby Reid) and any OSU fan who is talking smack is just mad about OU beating us last year. However, M, that comment at the end of your post is pretty stupid. I don't think the education at either school should be talked about. Both schools have good reputations for graduates, no need to try and make yourself feel better.
Saxon, Oklahoma City - Mar 4, 2008 at 10:14 am
I guess by Nathan's logic the only true fans in America are fans of losing teams? I hear this arguement a lot from my two brothers, both OSU fans. OSU fans like to use this to make up for the fact that the only sport they are good in is golf and wrestling. If there are so many superior OSU fans out there than how come they can't sell out that punny 40,000 capacity stadium except when OU and Texas come to town. The OSU cry that all OU fans are bandwagon fans lost all its merit this year when your sacred basketball team starting losing and fans stopped showing up for games. That proves that OSU fans are just a bunch of hypocrites. So all you whiney, cry baby OSU fans out there can just be quiet now and appreciate the fact that the state taxes OU pays keep your sorry excuse for an institution running. "Show me a successful OSU fan, and I will show you his boss at an OU game." BOOMER!!!

matt, you're right. i've just had several run ins with OU fans... some are even good friends, but they all seem to have this "cockiness" to them. not all OU fans are bad, i know, but most teams that are used to winning have really bad fans... yankees, lakers, dallas cowboys... all have those mediocre bandwagon fans. i jumped on this thread just like many OU fans jump on ours when things go on at OSU. figured i'd stir you guys up a little. sorry to upset you matt. have a good day.
Nathan, Edmond - Mar 4, 2008 at 8:38 am
Nathan, just go away. Go support your team. I support mine, you support yours, but last time I checked, this is an OU article and has nothing to do with wether you support OSU or not. Do not throw blanket statements on OU fans. Yes, some are jerks, but most are reasonable people who support their team no matter what. I dont see OSU fan filling the stadium either when they are losing, and I believe I saw some empty seats in Gallagher-Iba this year when the basketball team wasnt doing so well. Grow up. Its sports, and it doesnt always have to be us vs. them. I would say the same to OU fans on here who have nothing better to do than talk trash.

here's the deal... i'm an OSU fan, through it all. has OSU ever won a national title in football... no, but i still support them. being a "fan" isn't about winning all the time, it's about supporting your team... which the majority of you idiot sooner fans WON'T do WHEN ou loses. those are facts. when ou loses... most of you go back to your trailers and beat your wives then head off to work at your local fast food joint wearing your ever fading high school letter jacket that you earned while being 3rd string kicker. the only reason most of you support ou is because that is the only "win" you can claim in your mediocre lives. the truth is that most OSU fans feel sorry for you guys because you are ignorant of most other things in life, yet you can rattle off useless facts of ou glory days past. the majority of sooner nation shares the same pair of testicles and i enjoy watching better teams kick them there. watching ou lose puts the biggest smile on any aggie face. i'm suprised the suicide rate doesn't go up more when your precious sooners lose a game. that's all you people have... a under achieving team that cheated its way to dominance during the sitzer era, cried and gave up on them during the blake/schnellenberger era, found hope for 1 magical season in 2000... and failed ever since.

Matt - Interesting find regarding Granger. That is not a good sign. Gerald McCoy should know what is going on. Why doesn't someone at the Oklahoman actually do a little research on this? Granger is sort of a crucial piece of the 2008 puzzle.
CECIL, Encinitas - Mar 3, 2008 at 11:43 pm
JJ, i guess you missed the story from about two months ago where the oklahoman corrected their previous articles and stated that Kody Spano's scholarship was never revoked and he in fact could have reported to campus in January. Also does anyone know what happened with Demarcus Granger? I just saw on the Norman court dockets that he is being evicted from his apartment.

I see the lOSUrs are out in full force. Seems most of them want there to be a story behind his leaving but they will just have to wait for one of their own to get pilled up, down some booze and drive, or pleasure themselves in public, pee on a school, punch a cop, get shot outside a nightclub, or violate a 12 year old before we see another story about an OSUcks player. In the mean time they couls also go back to bashing a kid who left when his scholarship was yanked from him if they want to bash a player for no good reason.
Louis, Oklahoma City - Mar 3, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Nathan, just stuff a sock in it. First, you are too stupid to have a job to make a $10 bet. That said, uh does Troy ring a bell? Oh and when was your last conference title and / or National title in football? Does 78-16-7 say anything to you? MAYBE ring a bell for you? Its OSU Morons like you that make it hard to pull for OSU when they are not playing OU. So take your toys and go home if you have one. Whatever, just go away.

I wish that you had explained more about his departure, most of us are familiar with his family/personal hassles he had to deal with and imagine that had something to do with his leaving? He should just send his tape to a few pro teams and try to get on their list of "possible free agents", with his talent they might really get a "find" with him. I wish he and his family only the best.
