Former Oklahoma women's basketball assistant coach Bo Overton has resigned as coach of the WNBA's Chicago Sky amid rumors that he sexually harassed members of his team.
Chicago Sky president Margaret Stender declined to elaborate Thursday on why Overton is out after just one season. Overton resigned Wednesday.
Stender said she "was not at liberty to publicly discuss" the reasons for Overton's departure.
In a message she posted on the team's Internet message board Monday, Stender had asked for help in investigating any acts of sexual harassment involving the team.
The request came after an anonymous message thread alleging Overton had harassed some players last season was posted on the Sky's message board March 7.
"I'm writing to respond to some of the serious and alarming comments that appeared on the message board. Let me state unequivocally that the Chicago Sky organization takes any allegations of sexual harassment extremely seriously. If any of you have any evidence of any acts of sexual harassment, I strongly urge you to share it with me as soon as possible," Stender's posting read.
"When it comes to something as serious as sexual harassment, I believe that gossip and unsubstantiated innuendo do a disservice to all involved."
Attempts to reach Overton and several Sky players by the Associated Press were not immediately successful Thursday.
Overton led the team to a 14-20 record last year. That was a marked improvement from the franchise's debut with the WNBA, when the Sky went 5-29 under then-coach and GM Dave Cowens.
