Fans to get look at juco transfers

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State football fans will get their first look this afternoon at seven juco transfers and some talented redshirt freshmen vying for spots on the two-deep chart.

Practice starts at 1:30 p.m. on the grass practice field east of Gallagher-Iba Arena. A brief 50-play "thud” scrimmage — defensive players won't be allowed to tackle — is scheduled at 3 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Coach Mike Gundy has talked about players who have "shown up” — his term for making a play — during Oklahoma State's first five spring practices.

All seven junior college transfers have been mentioned, but will that translate to success during games this season?

"They have a ways to go now, don't get me wrong,” Gundy said. "They have to get in better shape. They have to learn our system and learn to play at a high level every single day.

"But they're doing the right things on a daily basis (on and off the field), which is encouraging... It looks like they were good takes.”

It's looking like four junior college players have a legitimate shot at starting jobs (defensive tackle Swanson Miller, safety Lucien Antoine, running back Beau Johnson and offensive tackle Andrew Mitchell). Cornerback Maurice Gray has two interceptions.

"The defense has been really physical,” Gundy said. "I've been impressed with our (defensive linemen).”

OSU's other two juco transfers, defensive tackle Chris Donaldson and defensive end Jeremiah Price, will provide depth. According to Gundy, redshirt freshman defensive end Richetti Jones has shown flashes of speed off the corner.

Gundy also said senior defensive tackle Tonga Tea
