As Texas mounted its second-half comeback, emotions ran high between Oklahoma State and the Longhorns. A couple of minor squabbles flared up, but players said afterward that it was just the nature of the game.
"Everyone on the court, we're all competitors ... things start getting tight and tough things start getting physical,” Texas guard Brittainey Raven said. "Not on purpose, but just in the heat of the game. But we have a lot of respect for the Oklahoma State team, and I'm sure it's mutual.
"After the game, I was able to talk to (Andrea) Riley. She's a great person, but out there on the court, friendships are out the window.”
Said Riley, who had a couple of tough collisions and contact with Texas players: "I was just going for the ball and giving good effort. The game did get very physical at times.”
•Presidential providence: Oklahoma State's new president, Burns Hargis, and his wife sat front and center at Thursday night's women's basketball game against Texas.
"I'm 3-0,” Hargis said, referring to the two games the women have won and the men's win over Texas Tech on Thursday afternoon.
"I'm sure I've had a lot to do with it,” he joked.
•Marvelous matchup: If the past is any indication, Saturday's championship game between Texas A&M and Oklahoma State should be a good one.
In the last two years, games between the Aggies and Cowgirls have been decided by six points, three points, two points and one point.
"I doubt there are two teams in America that have played each other tougher or closer in the last two years than (us and) A&M,”
