Oklahoma State's Andrea Riley will play tonight in the Big 12 Tournament title game, following a conference review of an incident in the Cowgirls' semifinal win over Texas.
Riley's status was in doubt after she struck the face of the Longhorns' Earnesia Williams during a scramble for a loose ball.
Big 12 spokeswoman Joni James said the Big 12 "reviewed the play and handled the matter internally, according to rules and procedures.”
James also said the league would have no further comment.
"I have not seen it,” Cowgirls coach Kurt Budke said before the team's practice Friday. "I know it was a physical game, a lot of pushing and shoving and a lot of emotion running.
"We talk to our kids about keeping their heads for 40 minutes. You don't have the right to push somebody, and we'll look at it and we'll look at it with Andrea, also. Oklahoma State plays by the rules.”
•Trick play: Seems Cowgirls forward Danielle Green can think quick on her feet – and her back.
With the Cowgirls trailing 67-66 late in Thursday's semifinal win over Texas, Riley dribbled clear across the baseline, looking for help.
She found Green, who had stumbled and was flat on her back.
Green caught the pass and immediately fed it back to Riley, who drilled a 3-pointer from the corner.
"Coach drew it up,” Riley said, giggling.
Said Green: "I just did not want to travel, I knew that much. I slipped and I was going to fall, and I said, ‘Thank God, Andrea was in bounds on that play.' I just threw it to her.”
•Discount tickets: Fans presenting a ticket from any session of this year's men's tournament can buy a ticket to the women's title game for $2.
The Municipal Auditorium box office will open at noon.
•Here we go again: OSU and A&M have played some memorable games the past two years, with four meetings all decided in the closing moments.
Not only have the matchups been tight, they've been rugged scrums.
"This game is going to be a battle,” Riley said. "Because every time, seems like when we see them, maroon and white, it's like, ‘Oh, we got a battle tonight.'
"They're a great team, and they're going to come out physical and we've got to match their intensity.”
