The quarterback led the Hawklets to a win over Edmond Santa Fe at Wantland Stadium to open last season.

In 2009, he could wind up in Norman.

Oklahoma is one of a large group that has offered scholarships to Scheelhaase.

He's also been offered by Big 12 schools Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri, as well as Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa and Stanford.

Scheelhaase plays quarterback at Rockhurst but is likely to move to safety in college. He played safety as a sophomore before moving over to quarterback last season.

Scheelhaase's father, Nate Creer, played defensive back for Iowa from 1982-85, the same period Sooners assistant offensive coordinator Jay Norvell played for the Hawkeyes. His freshman season was Bob Stoops' senior season.

The senior-to-be will play quarterback again for the Hawklets next season.

•WR Lott looking at OU: The Sooners have already benefited from a former player helping them land a verbal commitment in the 2009 recruiting class. Mansfield (Texas) Legacy High School defensive end Terry Franklin committed to OU, following in the footsteps of his high school coach and former Sooner quarterback Chris Melson.

OU could be hoping a second Sooner connection will pay off in another 2009 commitment.

Plano (Texas) wide receiver Kris Lott, the son of former OU wishbone quarterback Thomas Lott, is interested in the Sooners along with Plano RB Rex Burkhead and QB Carson Meger, their high school coach Jaydon McCullough said.

"I put a lot of letters from OU in their lockers,” said McCullough, who was officially promoted from assistant to head coach last month. "A lot of schools are looking at those players.”

As a junior, the 6-foot, 195-pound Lott caught 71 passes for 1,263 yards and 11 touchdowns and helped lead Plano to a 13-2 record and state semifinals appearance last season.

Burkhead (5-11, 200) ran for 1,768 yards and 33 touchdowns and was the district MVP.
