Oklahoma State was 4-11 against teams selected to play in the NCAA Tournament. The Cowboys beat No. 16-seed Texas-Arlington by five points in December, No. 1-seed Kansas in February and No 11-seed Baylor and 9th-seed Texas A&M in February.
OSU's losses to tournament teams include non-conference losses to Marquette, Pittsburgh and Oral Roberts. In conference play, OSU lost once to Texas A&M and Baylor, a loss to 11-seed Kansas State, three defeats by 2-seed Texas and two by 6-seed Oklahoma.
NIT rewind: This is OSU's third-straight year playing in the NIT. Two years ago, the Cowboys lost in the first round at Miami, and last year, following a strong showing in the Big 12 Tournament, OSU was embarrassed 67-64 at home by Marist in the first round.
"I hope (we get into the NIT) and we get a chance to play some more games,” OSU coach Sean Suttonsaid in Kansas City, Mo., on Friday.
Back to business: Before the Big 12 Tournament championship game was over, Oklahoma State was already back on the practice court in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowboys had a light practice on Sunday afternoon, capped with an impromptu dunking competition.
RPI ranking: If the NIT were selected solely on the basis of RPI, Oklahoma State would not have received an NIT invitation. The Cowboys finished with an RPI of 78. Going through the non-NCAA Tournament teams with higher RPIs and figuring in the automatic bids, OSU would be one spot out of the 32-team tournament.
