Rep. Sally Kern may not apologize for calling homosexuality the biggest threat facing America, but she said she may tone down the rhetoric.

Kern made the comments Tuesday morning, but she did not attend a rally of about 300 people at the state Capitol calling upon her to apologize for calling homosexuality "the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam.”
Kern has acknowledged she said those words during a speech she gave earlier this year to a Republican club in Oklahoma City. She hasn't given any speeches since excerpts of her speech were posted on the YouTube Internet site, but she said she would talk again if asked about the strategy that backers of gay rights are using to defeat conservatives.
"The message of my speech would not change,” she said. "I might use different analogies.
"Just the fact that you're talking about an agenda that someone has does not mean that you hate them,” Kern said.
During the rally at the state Capitol, Rob Howard, executive director of the Cimarron Alliance Foundation, called on Kern to apologize.
"Hateful speech leads to hate crimes just as surely as the sun rises in the morning,” he said.
The Rev. Jim Shields, a retired United Methodist minister who lives in Kern's district that covers parts of west Oklahoma City and Bethany, called on the Republican legislator to hold meetings in the district to talk with gays and Muslims.
"Many of her statements are more for a crusade in a church than for her responsibilities with her publicly paid job of being fair, wise and reasonable in making laws for our state and the legislative district where we both live,” he said.
If Kern doesn't apologize or hold public discussions, then she should resign, said the Rev. Loyce Newton-Edwards, assistant pastor of the Open Arms United Church of Christ and president of the Oklahoma City chapter of PFLAG, which stands for Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.
"If she does that, she shows good will and good faith; if she doesn't, we think she's ignoring us and we think that what she's done is just deplorable and she ought to resign as a public person,” Newton-Edwards said.
Kern would have no comment on the requests made of her during the rally until she has a chance to read written statements that were left at her office, Kern's legislative assistant said.
Kern was not in the Capitol while the 40-minute event during the noon hour took place in the first-floor rotunda. The House adjourned about 10 a.m. after a one-hour session; she, as did many House members, left a short time later.
No state representatives were seen at the rally. Sen. Constance Johnson, D-Oklahoma City, watched for a while from the second floor.
Asked in a telephone interview what she thought about the rally, Kern said: "I think it's great. They're exercising their First Amendment rights. I have no problem with it.”
YouTube clip provokes response
Someone taped a speech Kern made in January to a Republican club near downtown Oklahoma City and sent it to a national gay rights group. Kern said earlier that the speech was about 30 minutes; a segment of about three minutes was posted about 10 days ago on YouTube.
Since then, about 1 million people have played the comments, Howard said.
Kern's legislative assistant said Tuesday the legislator has received about 26,000 e-mails since her comments were posted on the Internet.
"The homosexual agenda is destroying this nation; it's just a fact,” Kern is heard saying on the YouTube clip.
Howard, with the Oklahoma City-based Cimarron Alliance Foundation, asked House Speaker Chris Benge to demand that Kern apologize and that the Legislature act on four comprehensive hate-crimes bills that failed to advance out of committee.
Benge, R-Tulsa, said last week he has no plans to punish Kern, saying Kern has a right to express her opinion.

Paula, your are wrong. Our government was founded as a Christian government. ANY historian will verify that. Most of the problems of this country stem from the country as a whole drifting from our Christian roots. For those interested, there's a rally to SUPPORT Sally Kern at noon, on April 2nd on the 2nd floor of the State Capitol Bldg.
Let me modify something I said. I said I hate those who want to apply their religion and their interpretation of the bible to everyone in this country... I should not have used the word hate, as it goes against the values I try to hold for myself. It certainly frustrates me, knowing that our government is not and was not ever a "Christian" government, when people try to claim it was. But hate isn't the word I should have used.
Then who created gay people? Some scientist making clones we don't know about? According to your religion, god made everyone, so therefore he did make gay people. And I don't know how many times I need to say this before some people understand it, but here goes again. Practice your religion freely; this country allows and encourages it. But your religion is NOT the official religion of this country. The government of our country is SECULAR, NOT THEISTIC. I do not hate Christians. I hate those who want to apply their religion and their interpretation of the bible to everyone in this country, when by the very foundation of this country that is unconstitutional. As for west, a) the "gays" didn't rise up as a whole community send death threats. The vast majority of the people in the gay community didn't send death threats and would denounce those who did. What was the result of the investigation by the way? Were there any official threats found? The Tulsa World ran an article stating that the threats were unsubstantiated. As far as the "changed American flag" that wasn't an American flag. That was a gay pride flag with the stars of the 50 states on it. The American flag has 13 stripes, and they are red, white, and blue. The gay pride flag has 6 stripes and they are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Just because a flag is similar to the U.S. flag doesn't mean it was a "changed" U.S. flag. If anything, it was a modified gay pride flag.
God does NOT create gay people - this is a choice that every person makes. To say that God made something totally opposite of what His Word says is ludicrous - homosexuality is an abomination, go read it for yourself in the Bible. I'm not judging, just stating fact. I love gay people, but I don't like their actions, just like I love drug addicts, but I don't like their actions. This is not judgmental - I do things that other people would find offensive too, but I do my best to follow what God tells me and if he spells it out in black and white, it's our responsibility to pay attention to it, which is why I go to church every week so that a pastor can tell me things that I didn't know about. God forgives everything, but ONLY when we accept it as wrong. Those of you defending this alternative lifestyle are the ones judging yourselves by your anger and hatred of Christians. I pray for all of you.
Hey john lets not be dogging christians especially with gandhi, he was no buddah either as much as he tried to be like whoever buddah was, give me a break. To call one's self a christian is to strive to be like him and not give up trying that what make us a better person, AND Debrah you have the wrong assesment of GOD or his nature, he is perfect and gays are not created by him, people are after that we become the choices that we make bottom line, people try to blame GOD for being gay is not right and without any understanding at all who and what God is.I don;t judge anyone but we as humans can;t help but do assess ourselves and others, the gays are judging Ms Kern and even sent death threats so now who is judging? Everyone does just some are more vocal that others and think their opinion matters more thats why they hold thier pointless rally with that changed American flag. What was up with that?
David, people aren't born to be murders,or criminals that is a learned process through whatever means that they have been subject too or by choice. I am sorry, if you thought that I said "GOD had made a mistake". I don't believe God makes mistakes, but Gay people are born Gay, it's not a choice as many uneducated folks want to believe. David, I am assuming from your name that you were born a male, is that a good judgement call on my part. David, GOD DOES NOT MAKE MISTAKES, but He does create Gay People". Just like he creates white, brown, black and tan, little boys and little girls that sometimes grow up to find that they are special in many different ways. By the way,Thank you JOHN for Gandhi's statement, it's so true. We have so many people casting judgements and they are not in the high authority to cast judgements but on themselves. As children we see the world as a big place with many different people, we learn to play and share with everyone, but sometimes as adults we become STUPID.
Mike, Norman … All you have given is Old Testament passages in reference to the Israeli government. Do you do this to trick the undiscerning? I don’t know if you have checked lately, but we’re now living in the New Testament era. Perhaps they didn’t teach you that in your religion schoolbooks. The New Testament does indeed proclaim that homosexuals and adulterers will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. It does not proclaim that we have to enforce the death penalty on those caught in adultery or homosexuals.
I do agree with you that the acceptance of homosexuality is here to stay. Yet it saddens me because I believe that to be a sign that God is letting America slip into total depravity. This is one of the main reasons why Christians fight against the homosexual agenda, because they do not want to believe that God is letting their country go.
As far as justifying hatred and fears with scripture, are you kidding? It’s easy to throw your arms around a homosexual and say that their lifestyle is AOK. That’s easy. It’s hard to stand for the truth, and inform homosexuals that their ways will damn them forever to hell. That’s hard to do. Hatred and Fear have no place in the Christian’s life and are never justified by scripture. We don’t hate or fear homosexuals; we merely want them to stop trying to influence our kids that homosexual behavior is AOK. It is not!
I'm from a very large family with unconditional love for each other. Just as with most of you, whether you admit it or not, we have a few family members that are gay. It's no big deal. They are in stable relationships and some have children. Growing up we were taught to respect different cultures, differing points of view and yes, sexuality. We were never taught to hate. Only hate can destroy. Reading through these hateful messages just makes me sad. I believe in the teachings of Christ, not the Old Testament. Period.
Richard, i'm just curious, but what school would your children have gone to if they were in public school. I ask because I went to Oklahoma Public Schools for 12 years (graduated high school in 2000) and i never had any gay activists approach me, nor did i have any gay literature given to me. Where are these schools that are indoctrinating school children?
My kids go to a Christian school because I'm tired of the gay activists targeting children. God wants us to be obedient to him, not tolerate inappropriate behavior.
My kids go to public school. I am sick and tired of them pushing their anti-gay, racist, fundamentalist agenda on to my kids. I teach them love and tolerance for all of God's children. I teach them to treat others as Jesus did. I think Sally Kern has it completely backwards.
Paula, you bring up a good point. Someone mentioned here a while back about certain books that 'promoted' homosexuality. I can think of one book that 'promoted' running away with a slave and then rafting down the Mississippi river naked. It's called Tom Sawyer and the last time people tried to ban that book, it was because of the use of the 'n' word. And if a child is old enough to read and comprehend the material that is being read, the child is old enough to understand a story from recruitment.
Rufus, do you encourage your children to beat up kids who are different from them? Do you encourage your children to be bullies? Do you advocate treating others disrespectfully? No one is handing out literature in the schools. The books that have been mentioned on this forum are simply to point out to kids that families aren't always a mom, a dad, and a kid. It's not in any way encouraging kids one way or the other; it's only to help prevent the bullying that often happens when kids find out others aren't exactly as they are. Do you think children of same-gendered couples are entitled to education the same as your children are? Do you think they should be bullied because they have 2 moms or 2 dads? You teach your children whatever you wish at home, but I think our schools should teach diversity rather than discrimination.
Well, we are a society that loves to play the blame game, so let’s just say for a hypothetical moment that homosexuality is a learned behavior, something someone can choose. Let’s say you’re a parent and your teenage son comes to you and tells you he is gay. First, that takes a lot of courage, trust, and confidence for a child to tell something like that to a parent. Trust me, been there done that. Second, who is to blame for the child’s new choice? TV? Movies? The Gays? Maybe it’s the parents. I always find it fascinating that when a concerned parent is worried their son or daughter might become a vicious gay monster, they never once mention the idea it could be the parents that could have caused the change. Think about it, when a child is very young and still learning basic concepts and ideas of life, the parents (or guardians) play a MAJOR role in development. Now could homosexuality arise from this? It’s possible. Could it be genetic? Possibly. But I digress from the main issue being discussed here.
Hey C from Choctaw. I earn a living wage and don't have an access card and i'm not white. I'm a just an anomaly? or did i just blow a hole in your racist rant?
Danielle, it's not a threat to society. Those who say it is are unable to provide any valid arguments against it other than religious issues, which may be valid for individuals but not for society as a whole.
I'm just trying to figure out how a person's sexuality is a threat to society. There are more important things we as a country should be worrying about.
Here is my question - if the meeting was so "private" how did this gay activist get in? Who's to say it's not an inside job? I mean come on, people. get over it already. It happened, it's over. There are much more pressing issues going on in the country that should be thought about rather than this, but that's just my opinion. Lets all get along.
The best way to know whether our country was founded on Christianity is to look to see what the people living at the time the Constitution was ratified thought about the situation. For example, a quick look at Article 11 of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship entered into with Tripoli (Liby) and ratified on June 10, 1797, states: "As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion . . . ." That takes care of that argument. Regarding enacting secular laws based on scripture (from any source), you who would support such a thing must be consistent in your application. If you want to criminalize homosexual behavior based on the bible, you must also support the death penalty for such things a stubborn and rebellious son (Deut. 22:18), adultry (Deut. 22:22), a man who rapes an engaged virgin in the city (both shall die) or a man who rapes an engaged virgin in the country (only the man shall die)(Deut. 22: 23-25) but if a man rapes a virgin who is not engaged, then the man must marry her and pay her dad 50 shekels of silver (Deut. 22:23-29). Of course, god also views as an "abomination" the wearing of wool and linen together (fashion nazi, obviously)(Deut. 22:11) and wants nothing to do with a man who has had an accident which castrated him (Deut. 23:1), nor a "bastard" and his descendants for 10 generations (wow!)(Deut. 23:2). It just keeps on going and going. So, stop picking those bible passages which justify your own hatreds and fears. It's all or nothing, baby! We are a secular society and there is simply no room for using bible passages to ratify and justify hate and intolerance. People are free to speak as they wish, but they are also responsible for the consequences. You voters in Kern's district know what to do at election time.
Candy, the gay activist snuck into a private meeting with conservative republicans, secretly recorded it and put it on you tube... Now explain, who started all this mess???
Oh, and there were many people attending on their lunch hour, Herb. Save your disdain for those who are truly hurting society; murderers, thieves, vandals, etc.
Dennis, OKC… I guess when Jesus rebuked the Apostle Peter and referred to him as Satan, he was speaking more “softly” in your words. Or when Jesus said "If anyone comes to me and does not hate (love less) his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” This doesn’t sound that soft to me. Jesus was filtering the tares from the wheat. This is exactly what we are called to do today as Christians. We are not to soften the message to trick the tares into thinking they are wheat…
LOL! You mean there are "teams" in this "oh so wonderful country", where people can't just be themselves and get along. If that's the case, then yes, I am on the other team, regardless of my sexuality, Rufus.
Do these people must not have jobs or are they concerned with the possible truth in the her words? Get over it or get back in the closet, you have had your new clips, protests, and attention in the paper, so give it a rest. Life isn't always fair for anyone, even those who chose to buck the laws of nature.
I couldn't agree more with Deborah, it shouldn't matter in the least. If my children were to come to me when they are adults and tell me that they questioned their sexuality, then I would provide them with all of the support I could to make sure they know that I love them and support them no matter what. Has anyone actually looked up the statistics on gay youth?? How many children kill themselves because they are afraid their parents, families, and peers will think less of them. I challenge all of you that are so hellbent on "Gays are wrong and immoral" to look that information up, and see how many children people like YOU are killing on a daily basis, just because of the redneck hillbilly, bible thumpin ways of yours.
Why can't we all just get along? That is my question. Why does it matter what your sexual orientation is?? Just the same as the color of a person's skin, or a person's religious beliefs. This is a bunch of bull. To think that Ms. Kern has gotten all that she wanted from that speech, which was a little bit of attention, allbeit bad attention, it was still attention. I wrote an email to Ms. Kern the day after the speech was released on YouTube, and haven't heard a word in response. She is My district's representative, but she does not represent me. I think in all fairness, she should resign, or be asked to leave. She doesn't have her constituents in the forefront of her mind, and that in itself should attest for everything.
Rufus, who knows why anyone wanted to tape Kerns at the meeting. Does it really matter? But since we are talking about Agendas, what is the Republican Agenda? The Christianity Agenda? Everyone has an agenda, everyone has motives.... because we human. We want things, we think of ways to get it. The homosexuals are no better than the Christians or republicans or poor or homeless, and vice versa. But since homosexuals have OBVIOUSLY been linked to pedophiles and rapists, then all Christians are linked to Fred Phelps, and all Christians hate America and Hate our troops, and ALL Christians are thankful for 9/11. (Now, I know the last statement I just made was not true, but that's the same spin everyone)
Deborah - God didn't make a mistake. Saying HE made somebody gay is like saying He made somebody a murderer, adulterer, etc. He gives us the free will to take the right path or the wrong one.
I want to know why, if there is no gay agenda, why a homosexual mole infiltrated a private meeting and secretly tape Ms. Kerns and then posted it on you tube??? Can someone tell me that????????
OK...so are most of you saying that being gay is wrong? So God made a mistake, by making all of us uniquely individual and special in our way. Gay's are not abnormal, they have been suppressed for a very long time due to narrow minded people. We are the only country (not speaking of 3rd world countries) that acts as though being gay is a choice. Gay's have been acknowledged and accepted for hundreds of years in Canada, Europe and South America, but so were Black people when the US was fighting against racial discrimination. Well, some of us were fighting against racial discrimination. The United States has been racial and gender biased for so long that people fail to remember that the Constitution says we are all equal. If we don't stand united, then individually we fall. And this crap that homosexuals are beating our schools doors down to educate our children about homosexuality is just too bazaar. Please remember that it wasn’t too long ago, when schools first started teaching informative & preventive sexual education to educate our children about STD's and early pregnancy. We had a number of rioting parents on that one. This year, we had the lowest number of teen births ever and this educational tool was first fought against 20-25 years ago from the religious stand point. The argument was that it would make our children more curious and more promiscuous. Should we not educate our children to some degree about homosexuality now or wait until a child attempts to or commits suicide because he or she thinks that their broken, wrong or abnormal. I personally would rather my child healthy and wise, gay or straight, but alive and living their dreams meeting their life goals, than died because of Bible thumping uneducated people were too narrow minded to see their beauty from within. Would you rather have the freaks from the West Borrow Baptist Church standing in front of our schools with their stupid, sick and vulgar signs, dragging our countries flag on the ground, shouting insults to our children about gay love and screaming that our troops should all die for being in this Godless war. I think that I'd rather have my school agers be instructed by a teacher than some self proclaimed incestuous preacher from Kansas.
david- proves the point that it takes all kinds...there are the reasonable and then there are the fools like me. btw. i m not so unreasonable but this is a forum and the most inane are at the very least entertaining, at the most witty. anyway.
Josh, Moore...and just how is it that you spread your "brand" of the Gospel throughout the community? Are you like John the Baptist, exhorting the lost to Repent! Repent! Those that lived during the time of Jesus were drawn to Him because of the way He spoke, and the more softly He spoke, the closer they were drawn to Him. That is how I picture our Lord...not as a raving lunatic going about condemning sinners to Hell.
Learning about the history and culture of other races doesn't make you a member of that race. Learning the history and culture of homosexuals doesn't make you homosexual. It would help to become educated about some of the misconceptions many of you have. Education doesn't mean indoctrination. There's no reason to NOT treat all law-abiding citizens equally even if you don't agree with some parts of their lives. You are no more worthy of the rights given to you under the laws of this country than anyone else, and homosexuals are not less worthy than you.
a, you are definitely a credit to your cause. Calling people who don't agree with you neanderthals, backwards, racist, bigots, etc does nothing but prove you don't have an argument and therefore are reduced to nothing but name-calling.
Reading through these comments I am reminded of when I first realized there was no real fat dude in a red suit at Xmas time. Everything I had been told up to that point had been innocent B.S. I don't know why a gay person would want to change a 2 year olds sexual orientation. I don't know any gays who are attracted to two year olds in a sexual manner. Also there are no magical spells, or special dust that gay's sneak in to baby powder that can change a baby's sexual identity when they grow older. I know that adult gay men are attracted to other men usually more in tone and tune with their personal traits than a sexual addict who preys on anything that extends ultimate joy to the reward center of the human brain. Gays are about relationships, just as straights are about "guy's who kiss and tell" and does unthinkable things when they go on those out of town business trips, away from the old ball and chain. People throw God's name and their take on religion around like we are all in tune with their beliefs. That is where the key problem is, they want a blanket covering all people in to one religion. That is the fight that becomes entertained, because unless you believe as they do, you are suppose to be subjected to rights less than the Holy HOA members in good standing have. It is offending that people throw their beliefs out thinking that everyone believes as they do. I don't care what God you choose to worship, I just don't want to hear about it. There are shrines, buildings, airport bathrooms and other designated areas where you can preach your religion. To demand a religious sect be used to persecute someone to be denied the same class of citizenship is not only offensive it is an invasion of the most personal aspects a person has to their privacy. It is about gays wanting rights, its about passing judgment.
If people are so scared that their children are having to deal with the pushing of the homosexual agenda, they should put them in a good catholic/christian "PRIVATE" school and they wont have to worry about it. Homosexuality is out there, and it is inevitable. I am in no way saying to agree with it, but people need to stop being so high and mighty. Just because children may be subjected (for lack of better word) to homosexuality doe not in any way mean that they are going to go out and be gay. It's just a way of accepting and not discriminating.
i am not even going to bother with this anymore. I thought it funny at first because i thought that neanderthals had ceased to exist but some of these posts have proven otherwise. Suffice it to say that the majority of opinions found in this forum are simply ridiculous. Yes, each of us has a right to express an opinion but, lord, I have never seen so many persons so willing to exhibit their ignorance - and with such self-righteousness. The bigots we find here are the same people who would have probably disagreed with inter-racial marriages, the abolition of slavery and giving women the right to vote. I didn't know that my fellow citizens could be so afraid of little ol' me. I think that I like that.
People incorrectly assume that proclaiming the word of God is judging. It is not. Numerous posts have mentioned that we need to proclaim God's love and not judge. What are you talking about? Telling someone that Jesus loves them is not what Christ asked us to do, at least not entirely. We are to proclaim the entire truth revealed in scripture. While true that Jesus loves sinners, it is also true that unrepentant sinners will end up spending eternity in Hell (i.e. Homosexuals, Adulterers, etc.). When Jesus spoke of his followers being persecuted just like he was, he meant it. The world hate's Christ followers because it testifies of the world's evil just like Christ did. I doubt that you will suffer much persecution for just going around telling everyone that Jesus loves them. If this is all that you proclaim, then I would charge that you are ashamed of the Gospel message and everything that Jesus stands for. You might want to check yourself at the door...
Ok, So let me ask you all this: With all this supposedly being taught in school, how are you doing on being a parent? How many of you when you were your child’s age believed everything in school, down to the last word? How many of you as children believed without a reasonable doubt everything your parents said? Being a parent means instilling your child with, not your personal belief, but with the knowledge to believe in what they see as truth. My father raised me to hate blacks. Do I hate blacks? No, because I learned for myself. What he did teach me was to be responsible and find out information for myself and learn for myself what is real, what is not, and what is truth, and for me to make my own unique opinion, not a copy of someone else’s.
In April, David Parker of Lexington spent a night in jail and was charged with criminal trespassing after refusing to leave a scheduled meeting with officials at the Estabrook Elementary School unless they provided parental notice of such lessons and gave him the option of pulling his child out of those classes.
Parker says the officials had indicated they would agree to a notification policy, then suddenly refused. He insists he has done nothing wrong and is willing to contest the charge rather than plea-bargain.
David Parker's son brought home the book 'Who's in a Family?' in school's 'Diversity Book Bag' (Image: Article 8 Alliance)
The dispute began last spring when Parker's then-5-year-old son brought home a book to be shared with his parents titled, "Who's in a Family?" The optional reading material, which came in a "Diversity Book Bag," depicted at least two households led by homosexual partners.
The illustrated book says, "A family can be made up in many different ways" and includes this text:
"Laura and Kyle live with their two moms, Joyce and Emily, and a poodle named Daisy. It takes all four of them to give Daisy her bath."
Another illustrated page says:
"Robin's family is made up of her dad, Clifford, her dad's partner, Henry, and Robin's cat, Sassy. Clifford and Henry take turns making dinner for their family."
A federal judge in Massachusetts has ordered the "gay" agenda taught to Christians who attend a public school in Massachusetts, finding that they need the teachings to be "engaged and productive citizens."
U.S. District Judge Mark L. Wolf yesterday dismissed a civil rights lawsuit brought by David Parker, ordering that it is reasonable, indeed there is an obligation, for public schools to teach young children to accept and endorse homosexuality.
Wolf essentially adopted the reasoning in a brief submitted by a number of homosexual-advocacy groups, who said "the rights of religious freedom and parental control over the upbringing of children … would undermine teaching and learning…" Wolf's ruling is every parent's nightmare. It goes to extraordinary lengths to legitimize and reinforce the 'right' (and even the duty) of schools to normalize homosexual behavior to even the youngest of children," said a statement from the pro-family group Mass Resistance.
Good Grief, is no one allowed an opinion anymore. Will we, as a Nation, destroy the right of free speech, by allowing no one to have an opinion? ?
EVERYONE FIND OFFENSE AT SOMETHING! DO THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO SILENCE EVERYONE?
"A", First let me correct you with a fact, it is the U.S. of A. not just America. America includes North and South America. That is besides the point. OK I do not hate homosexuals (I do hate the group GLAAD), but will NEVER acccept them.
Well, after a wonderful Wednesday sermon I have read in the comments section, I would like to add my two cents to this whole debate. First off, both sides will continue to argue over this until judgment day actually occurs. Homosexuals will be mad at the Christians, Christians will voice out against homosexuals, and it’s going to continue to happen. So we might as well learn to disagree with each other peacefully and continue to pass the bread at dinner. Second, Kerns is a Christian, that fact has been pretty much solidified without a doubt. She is also a public figure and a voice of Oklahoma. Paula is right, America's government is based on the principles of free will, and in this case to practice whatever religion you want. But does that mean America's recommended choice of religion is Christianity? No. When you are born or become a legal citizen, there is no paperwork making you agree to practice one way or the other. So please, think about that before writing another verse describing why America should fight 'America's biggest threat, even over terrorism or Islam'
"A" I am talking about everything including races and religion. I will not ignore the issue. What we should do is leave Rep. Kern alone. Also if you went to a "christian church" and believe in GOD then you should believe that believe that homosexuality is not OK. Believe in anything elso will only make you a hypocrite.
Fernando - I am not asking for you to agree with me, everyone is entitled to their opinion (it is America). I could care less who does or does not agree with me, I am one person, what affect am I going to have on anyone, really? I just think instead of shunning those who chose to live their lives in a different manner than you or me we should just either embrace and accept, or just ignore. There is no reason to hate or make someone feel like less of a person.
If everybody just looked towards our true heavenly calling that God wants for us, this problem would be solved: Matt. 22:30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. This is what I have chosen - just give up earthly sensual desires - if it was good enough for Paul - it's good enough for me.
"a" Yes people are ignorant. Homosexuality is not a way of life, but something of life. I think it is ok teach sex education in school. Also I am open minded and don't agree with you, homosexuals, others who believe in homosexuality, & GLAAD.
And for the record, I am white, straight, and female. Grew up in church and believe in God, but I have TOLLERANCE. Love thy neighbor, who is anyone to judge?
Fernando, you are talking about races and religions.. BEING GAY IS NEITHER!!! What gives you or anyone else for that matter the right to say whether or not homosexuality is right or not?? If you don't like it, ignore it.
Karen, so have your children stay home from school. God, people are so ignorant. It's a way of life, just like heterosexuality. Gay parents don't freak out when schools teach sex education from the hetero stand point. Everyone needs to get off their throne and be more open minded, even if you don't agree.
"A", I know that the gay community is not passing out leaflets, but they are are telling children that homosexuality is OK. Well I am here telling people taht it is not OK. I am tolerant towards Protestants, Muslim, Jews, Hindus, (yes I am Catholic), Male, Female, Whites, Blacks, Native Americans, Hispanics, Asians, Europians, South Americans, Africans, and other race, Young, Old, Rich, poor, legal or illegal, but being gay or lesbian that is out of the question. We as people should treat homosexuality like we treat AIDS/HIV, or some other uncurable disese w/ education (until a cure is found). After saying that I will NOT go to the extreme and hurt homosexuals. Also I will not boycut them, like other extremist. The year has nothing to do with it. IT IS 2008 AND I DO NOT BELIEVE IN HOMOSEXUALITY. We as straight people should boycut any GLAAD events. They are like PETA, "Much Ado About Nothing".
The Bible also says you should get the death penalty for adultry and prostitution. There goes half the population of Oklahoma. Lighten up! The Bible was written long ago in a totally different culture.
A, are you serious? What do you think DOS (Day of Silence) on April 25th is all about? Friday, April 25, several thousand schools across the nation will be observing "Day of Silence (DOS)." DOS is a nationwide push to promote the homosexual lifestyle in public schools. It is sponsored by an activist homosexual group, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). DOS leads the students to believe that every person who identifies as a homosexual, bisexual or cross-dresser is a victim of ongoing, unrelenting harassment and hate. Students are taught that homosexuality is a worthy lifestyle, homosexuality has few or no risks, and individuals are born homosexual and cannot change. Those who oppose such teaching are characterized as ignorant and hateful bigots. So, guess who is to be intimidated into silence that day? The ones who oppose it. So much for free speech.
charles - I don't think that homosexuality is at all entertainment. And that wasn't the point I was trying to make with what I said.. Furthermore, what are "normal" people? I mean, just because you or I may be straight and that is normal to us, doesn't mean that someone that isn't straight thinks they are abnormal, and neither should the "normal" people that we are. Does that even make sense? Oh well. I tried.
It surprises me how brave retards are on the internet! Just because you believe something doesn't make it so. Our country is supposed to alow all people of all faiths rights. If you want to believe some work of fiction written years after christ go ahead. If you want to read only the parts and not the parts banned by the bible go ahead. Believe the nonsense if it makes you feel better. But don't spread hate and violent messages with it. Love thy neighbor, unless your gay, muslim or etc. Well lets just throw that out they will only love you if you are white, straight, christian and you should have some money also. HYPOCRITES!!!!!!! Don't try to feel sorry for me. I feel sorry for you idiots. Because if there is really a god he will punish those who caused pain and misfortune to all of his creations!!!!! ALL!!!
Kaare, that's according to what you mean by cool. They are born that way, they look starved for affection and attention, and I think most of them would make good actors.
Jamie, the words "one nation under god" were not added to the pledge of allegiance until the 1950s. The founding fathers, those who built our country, did not put those words in the pledge. Therefore, I still maintain that the country was not built on Christianity. Do your homework.
a.,you are right.Mostly, homosexuality is entertainment for normal people. In l958,no one would even look at two men or two women kissing, today, they would run across the street to see it.Entertainment, but cheap entertainment.
Excuse me??? I hear over and over there is no "gay agenda".. then a homosexual mole infilitrates Rep. Kerns private Republican meeting to secretly tape it, the rest is history. That, my folks, is an agenda...
I can't get over the fact that people think that the homosexual community is intentionally corrupting children and whatnot. It's not like they are going into schools and having super fun gay parades or passing out leaflets saying things like "you should be gay". How many of you have had a homosexual come to your door and ask if they can talk to you about their sexual preference? I know that's never happened to me, however I have had numerous morman and christian house calls. I just think it is so insane that people just cannot accept things that they can't change, and get over it. Really. What do you expect to get out of bashing people that have different sexual preferences than you? And I know it's hard to believe, but not everyone has the same view on religion. It's a persons right to be free and do what they want. just because Christianity says it is wrong in your opinion, doesn't mean that the person to your left believes the same thing. People need to practice more tolerance, be it racial, sexual, or whatever. I mean, what year is it? 1958? You would think that we would be beyond the bigotry and what not by now.
Loretta, you are correct about paths as the Bible says, should a man lay with a man or a woman with a woman or either with an animal, they should be put to death.
David, never let people or circumstances test your faith, only the devil can do that.Jay and those who chose to not believe, will be as dust to be shaken from your sandals.Move on with your faith and just concentrate on the Bible, all will be great in the end.
In the beginning God created Adam in God's own image and likeness. Adam was in God's image. He took a portion of Adam and formed Eve and instituted marriage and the ability to create life. This action made Adam and Eve together the Image of God. It was a union that created life. Adam and Adam together does not create life. Eve and Eve together does not create life. Those unions promote death because they are not in the image of God and they do not create life. It is not God sitting up in heaven with a smite botton looking for homosexuals to kill. We should not as God's ambassadors be so angry about other people's sins. We were created to set things in order, not condemn. Sin is a misunderstood word. It means to miss the mark. When you miss the mark, you are not in the position to promote life or light. You put yourself in a death situation. You do it yourself. That is the reason for God's laws. His laws are for a person's guidance so they will choose the path that leads to life. All these angry words between people are not productive. God did not create people to be homosexuals, nor are people born homosexuals. Being a homosexual is a choice just as being heterosexual or bisexual or not being sexual at all is a choice. You choose your own path. Some paths lead to life and some lead to death. Choose life.
I posted a few days ago regarding Kern’s remarks to her republican constituency but could not resist taking another look (I'm from OKC). Sadly, not much has changed. The self -righteous crusaders for Christ continue babbling nonsense based on Biblical scripture and twisted logic. The tone of their writings, filled with anger and hate, serve no good purpose. These few people thrive on judging others, gossip, hearsay and rumors. They claim to speak for a majority but in fact, they closely parallel the fringe followers within the Muslim faith. Fanatics and extremists will unfortunately always be around. They are the disenfranchised, craving attention and in some circumstance, revenge.
Let us put this one to rest. There is no “homosexual agenda”. The gay and lesbian community (yes, with their equally bizarre fringe group) is only asking for equal rights and the same opportunities as other Oklahomans and Americans. Unless the law recently changed, it is legal for an employer in Oklahoma to fire someone because he or she is homosexual. Why not just expand the law and get rid of overweight workers? Gosh, let’s just simplify the whole darn thing and choose one religion too, I don’t know…maybe Lutheran? They seem nice. I would need to brush up on their beliefs but I’m up for it.
As for recruiting two-year olds, that is downright bizarre. For Rep. Kern to have even thought it, much less say it, is reason enough for an inquisition! Yes, her son is gay and yes, I’m sure she feels guilt and regret but please, keep the drama in the family, not in front of a few million people around the world.
I remain unconvinced that gay people are born gay. Are alcoholics born that way? Of course not. There is a genetic predisposition, yes, but there is still the teeny little mattter of choice involved. To hide behind a "We just can't help it" attitude is a pathetic excuse for aberrant behavior that shouldn't be tolerated by right-minded people. Go Sally!
Kern shouldn't apologize or be threatened for speaking the truth. We all have a right to our opinion, even if what we believe in is immoral, destructive, and ungodly, and believe me I can show you that in the Bible. When churches and their representatives stand up for homosexuality, then makes me wonder what their church is based on.
Once homosexuality is legitimized, there's no logical reason to object to any deviant sexual behavior. I thought pedophilia would get recognition first. It should be along shortly. The slippery slope keeps getting slicker!
Why should strainght people have to apologize for speaking out against what we think is morally wrong...but yet when the gays do it we should feel for them?? Screw that, I'm offended by the gays and I think they should apologize to my children and I for being the way they are if we're going along that line of thinking.
Again people does anybody posting here understand that you will not change anyones point of view? Even if this ole gal apologized it would not be heart felt or because she had changed her mind about gay people. So fo

It is not!
EVERYONE FIND OFFENSE AT SOMETHING! DO THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO SILENCE EVERYONE?
