Creating mismatches
You caught a lot of touchdowns last season. But now that Malcolm is gone and DeMarco is hurt, are you trying to take more of a proactive approach in making big plays for this offense?
No, not necessarily.
Coach Wilson is going to put us in situations to be successful. This is the
University of Oklahoma — we've got playmakers. Sam at quarterback can spread it out and we have a lot of guys who can make plays.
What offenses in college football use the tight ends well?
Miami. ‘The U' uses their tight ends great. All of those guys that have come through there.
Is there any particular player you try to emulate?
Most definitely. The guy I like to watch is
Antonio Gates, how he flexes out and makes mismatches. I like what he does.
OU has had a lot of good tight ends over the years, but maybe no one who can line up at wide receiver like you can. Do you think you create mismatch problems for defenses?
If I go out there and get against a linebacker, I like to put in my mindset, that he's too slow, he can't cover me. If I'm going against a safety, I want to outmuscle him, I want to beat him up. I'm going out there to get the advantage any way I can. That's my mindset towards it.
Do you think throwing to the tight end is an underrated weapon in college football?
It is what you make it.
Personally, I want the ball. Coach Wilson is going to put the ball in my hands and everything. If I take care of business, I don't have to worry about anything.
