After 11 days away from football to relax during spring break, the Sooners will resume spring practice this afternoon.

OU will also practice Wednesday and Friday before conducting its first open scrimmage on Saturday. The Sooners will also have a scrimmage on April 5 before the annual Red-White spring game on April 12.

•Stoops says Fiesta Bowl loss behind Sooners: OU coach Bob Stoops said that losing 48-28 to West Virginia in the Fiesta Bowl hasn't had an impact on how the 2008 Sooners have practiced so far this spring.

"I say this all the time, I've never seen one year tied to the other. We've won the national championship before, and it didn't have anything to do with the next year,” Stoops said. "We've lost it, and it didn't have anything to do with the next year. It's a different team, different players, coaches change here and there. Hopefully, we can finish the year a little bit better.”

•Two more Bearcats in trouble: The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that second-team All-American defensive tackle Terrill Byrd, along with Michigan transfer running back Mister Simpson, were cited to court earlier this month and charged with drug abuse. Court documents showed that Byrd and Simpson were caught smoking marijuana at Byrd's residence on campus. Arrest warrants were issued for both Byrd and Simpson after they failed to appear in court.

Citing privacy regulations, Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly has declined to comment on the arrests.

Starting offensive lineman Trevor Canfield was suspended indefinitely by Kelly after being arrested last month and charged with felony assault. Charges were later dropped.

OU plays UC on Sept. 6.
