OSU golfers in third place
The
Oklahoma State men's golf team was third after the first day of the U.S. Collegiate Championship on Monday at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta.
OSU finished 4-over and trailed leader
UCLA by three strokes. Florida State is second, two strokes behind the
Bruins.
Cowboys junior
Trent Leon finished the first round with a 3-under 69 and is tied for second place. He trails leader
Kevin Chappell of
UCLA by one stroke. Freshman
Rickie Fowler is the only other
OSU player in the top 10. He stands 10th with an even-par 72.
Second-round play continues today, and the final round is Wednesday.
•Berge's season done: Mick Berge, an Oklahoma City native who plays hockey at
Minnesota State-Mankato, is done for the season.
Berge scored a goal, but the Mavericks lost to Minnesota 3-2 in the last game of a best-of-three playoff series. The junior forward helped the Mavericks take Minnesota to overtime all three games.
Berge, whose father,
Mark, played and coached for the
Oklahoma City Blazers, finished the season with a team-high 21 goals.
•Gadowsky has Princeton in playoffs: Guy Gadowsky, who coached the old Oklahoma Coyotes roller hockey team, has
Princeton in the
NCAA hockey playoffs.
Gadowsky, who has been Tigers coach since 2003, was Coyotes coach during the 1996
Roller Hockey International season.
Princeton plays North Dakota at 2 p.m. Saturday in Madison, Wis. North Dakota is top seed in the regional.
•Practice canceled: State Fair Speedway officials have canceled Wednesday's driver practice. The track will begin its regular points season at 7:30 p.m. Friday for Super Sprints, Champ Sprints,
USA Modifieds and Factory Stocks.
•Honor roll: Trey Sims of
Kansas Wesleyan was named an NAIA All-American basketball honorable mention. The Tulsa native ranked second among
Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference scorers at 16.2 points per game. The 6-foot guard was an all-conference pick after ranking in the top 10 among all categories, except rebounding.
•Josh Barnett of Cameron was named
Lone Star Conference co-Hitter of the Week. The junior improved his on-base percentage to .475 and is second on the team with a .413 batting average.
•March Madness is king: KWTV-9's coverage of the
NCAA men's basketball tournament dominated the week, topped by
Oklahoma's two telecasts. Among the women's tournament coverage on
ESPN2, the
OU-Illinois State game earned a 6.0 and the
OSU-East Tennessee State game a 4.1.
