EDMOND — Edmond police arrested an 18-year-old in connection with the theft of a 300-pound bronze statue from a public park, a police spokeswoman said.
Chad Alexander Griffin was arrested about midnight Monday, Glynda Chu said. The statue was found in Hafer Park.
Shan Gray sculpted the statue of a Girl Scout holding a shovel. Maintenance workers discovered the artwork missing Friday during a routine check of J.L. Mitch Park before the Easter weekend.
The statue was undamaged and has been returned to the park department officials who hope to have reinstalled in Mitch Park by the end of the week.
Police received an anonymous tip saying Griffin had been bragging about taking the statue, Chu said.
Police went to Griffin's home, but couldn't find him. About an hour later, Chu said, Griffin was stopped by police driving his van at Edmond Road and Fretz Avenue
Griffin admitted to taking the statue as a prank, Chu said.
