OKLAHOMA CITY
Tinker proposal ballot set
Commissioners approved ballot language for the $83.5 million Tinker Air Force Base and Oklahoma County bond issue election set for May 13.

The largest of the five propositions asks for $55 million to buy the abandoned General Motors plant and lease it to the Air Force base. Officials want to move many of Tinker's maintenance operations to the plant.

The other propositions ask for money to renovate the county courthouse, improve county record storage, perform natural disaster prevention work and build a county extension building.

Approval of all five propositions would cost the owner of a $100,000 house an extra $15.16 a year in property taxes.

Officials to look at road quality
Oklahoma County officials may change their road and bridge project selection process to mirror Oklahoma City's.

County commissioners Wednesday unanimously approved asking the county engineer to collect proposals for a pavement management system.

The system would analyze a road to determine whether it needs work. It also would weigh traffic counts, accident rates and drainage near the road or bridge.

The system, similar to Oklahoma City's, was proposed by District 1 Commissioner Willa Johnson, a former Oklahoma City council member.

Johnson said the purpose of the system is to ensure road projects are approved based on need rather than for politics.

A Snyder man died Wednesday from injuries suffered when his pickup left a Comanche County road and hit a tree, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Dickson later died at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

A passenger, Harry Joe Dickson, 32, was not hurt.

Troopers said alcohol was to blame and seatbelts weren't in use.
