Potential wildfire conditions today will be the main concern today in western, central and southwestern Oklahoma.
Gusty westerly winds and hot, dry air will precede the arrival of a cold front, according to the National Weather Service.
The northern two-thirds of the state will be in the cooler air by sunset.
Skies should be partly to mostly cloudy today and Friday, with temperatures reaching the 70s and 80s on Thursday. Tonight, there's a slight chance or rain and thunderstorms in northern, forecasters said.
Lows should range from the 30s in the Panhandle to around 60 in extreme southeastern Oklahoma.
The wildfire potential today for Oklahoma will be very high to extreme.
Relative humidity will range from 10 to 50 percent, with winds 15 to 25 mph and gusting to 30 mph.
A slight chance for showers and thunderstorms exists tonight east of Interstate 35. The cooler airmass will provide more normal temperatures Friday and Saturday, forecasters said.
That area of the state will see the best chance of storms on Friday. Highs should cool into a range from the mid-50s in the Panhandle to the mid-70s in extreme southeastern Oklahoma.
A good chance for rain arrives Sunday and Monday.
The temperature in Oklahoma City at 9 a.m. today was 67 degrees. Southerly winds were about 20 mph, gusting to 30 mph.
In Tulsa, the temperature was 69 degrees. Southerly winds were 20 to 25 mph, gusting to near 30 mph. Today's high will be in the upper 70s with southwesterly winds about 15 mph.
Advisory, warning issued
A lake wind advisory is effective until 7 p.m. today for McCurtain County.
A lake wind advisory means Winds will cause rough chop. Small boats will be prone to capsizing.
A red flag warning will be effective from noon to 9 p.m. today for Beckham, Custer, Greer, Harmon, Jackson, Kiowa, Roger Mills, Tillman and Washita counties.
A red flag warning means dangerous conditions exist that are creating wildfire growth potential. Conditions include sustained winds averaging at least 20 mph, relative humidity of 20 percent or less and a temperature more than 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
